"No! Please!"
"Stop!"
"Monster!!"
"Subject X. The Cure."
"Savior."
(Y/N) was running. Running away from all the voices. Trying to find a way to escape from them. She could see the way out of the dark black hole she was in. She could see someone waiting for her on the other side. His hand was outstretched for her. She reached out her hand to touch his, but when she was so close to escaping, she heard a gunshot and was frozen in place.
She was transported back in WICKED and Dr. Janson was right in front of her, but this time she was all alone. Dr. Janson's face was deformed, ruined, and bloody. That was how he looked when (Y/N) killed him and beat him up for killing her mother.
Dr. Janson pounced on (Y/N) with a cry and straddled her on the ground. She tried to fight but he hit her in the stomach with his gun, making her groan and cry in pain. He then pointed the tip of the gun on (Y/N)'s temple. She shivered as she felt the cold metal make contact on her head.
"You were supposed to die!"
(Y/N) was startled when it was no longer Dr. Janson on top of her, but James Dashner. His face contained anger and hatred for her. His finger was now on the trigger.
"Like this!" Without any warning, he pulled the trigger.
(Y/N)'s eyes shot open and she immediately reached out for her gun which was always right beside her when she sleeps; she pulled the trigger. When she did, no sound came out and no bullet was released. (Y/N) dropped the gun on the grass and tried to let herself breathe.
Despite the cool night air, her body was drenched with sweat. She looked around and saw that her friends were still asleep. She was glad that she didn't disturb them tonight.
(Y/N) and her friends and family have been living in Paradise for almost a month. Some of the Immunes have separated from them and decided to wander around their new home. There were still some who stayed with them. Like some of the Sticks and a few Gladers who were still alive. None of them didn't want to separate from each other with being together almost their whole lives.
The last few days were peaceful. Everyone was trying to enjoy the peace that they finally have. But the nights for (Y/N) were terrible. She would always have nightmares about the lives that she took, haunting her. She used to take her gun and pull the trigger for three nights when she's still shaken from her nightmares, waking everyone up. (Y/N) remembered that Jorge took away the bullets the other morning and hid them safely.
(Y/N) turned her head to the side and saw Newt sleeping soundly. She smiled at the sight and was tempted to touch his soft hair. She didn't, because she didn't want to wake him. Everyone else seemed to be sleeping soundly somewhere in the forest. (Y/N) stood up and made her way up in the lake where she and Newt had that proper kiss she promised him.
(Y/N) splashed some water on her face to cool herself. She was quite tempted to take a swim. She was about to, but she saw Thomas on one side of the lake, curled up in a ball and staring blankly at the water. She walked towards him and sat down beside him. She gently laid her hand on his shoulder, only at that time was he able to acknowledge her presence.
"Hey," she whispered at him. Just like her, he was also getting nightmares. Everyone and mostly the both of them have been through so much.
"Nightmares again?" Thomas asked softly. His eyes still not leaving the water.
"Yeah," she nodded. "You too?"
"Yeah."
The both of them sat side by side. Silently praying that they could finally find peace. Praying that the nightmares would go away forever.
(Y/N) suddenly smiled which confused Thomas. "Wanna go for a swim?" She titled her head at that lake.
Thomas's lips curled into a smile and nodded. (Y/N) took off her sweat drenched clothes until she was just wearing her underwear. While Thomas just took off his shirt. Neither of them felt bashful since they've been together for a long time. They feel closer than just best friends, they felt as if they're brother and sister.
Hand in hand, they slipped inside the lake. They shivered at the cold at first, but they got used to it. The lake wasn't really that deep. In fact, it just reached (Y/N)'s torso.
When they got used to the water, they were almost going to let their guard down. That was until they both heard a bush rustling and sprang out of the waters. They were both ready for battle until they saw that it was just Newt, coming to check up on them.
"Oh, it's just you," (Y/N) breathed out.
The residing trauma for the two of them was something that won't be easy to let go.
"Yeah, it is." Newt suddenly blushed when he noticed that (Y/N) was just in her underwear.
(Y/N) jumped back in the water while Thomas was already drying himself off. "I'll leave the two of you," he said with a smirk. "Besides, I think Brenda is waiting for me."
He walked away from (Y/N) and Newt. Newt then took off his shirt and joined (Y/N) in the lake. He took her hand and gave her this warm smile that sent swirls to her stomach.
"Nightmares?" They both connected their foreheads together. Their fingers intertwined with each other under the water. (Y/N)'s eyes were closed, trying to savor this beautiful peaceful moment with Newt.
"Yeah," she nodded.
"Why didn't you wake me?"
"I didn't want to disturb you while you were sleeping. Your nightmares seems to have finally subsided."
"But yours hasn't yet."
(Y/N) opened her eyes and sighed. She pulled away from Newt and let herself go deeper into the water by bending her knees. Her head was the only thing sticking out of the water.
"I don't know how they'll go away."
"Just stay with me alright. Don't let them get the best of you."
"Newt," she smiled, "my entire mission out there was staying with you. Of course I will."
"Good that."
