It felt like forever but Newt finally saw the light. The way out of the building and a way back to (Y/N). Jorge was there to greet him when he got out. The didn't say anything, but Newt just looked at Jorge's face. Searching for any signs of sadness because someone died, but there was none. That was a relief for him.

He hadn't heard from Harriet or Jack since his walkie talkie got crushed when the ceiling feel down on the group, separating them. He wasn't able to talk with Hans who was the only one who knew how she was doing. Newt was powered by the adrenaline in his body. He didn't acknowledge the aching of his tired legs or the pain of his suffering ankle.

When he finally made it to (Y/N)'s room, he saw that Jack had his hands on her chest and was pushing down. That's when Newt found out what CPR was. Jack held out his hand for the cure for (Y/N) and Newt obediently gave it to him.

Newt felt a hand cover his and saw that it was Harriet. He held her head and pulled her to his chest, to comfort her. Harriet wrapped her arms around his chest. He heard her ragged breathes. He could tell that she was tired and scared, but everything was fine now. At least he hopes it.

Newt's eyes finally focused on (Y/N)'s body. Her body was pale and lifeless. He reached his free hand for hers and instead went to her wrist. He could feel her pulse. Her pulse which was getting slower and slower. It was getting faint.

He was getting impatient since Jack seemed to take forever on preparing the virus. For him, it was just easy. Jack could just inject it to (Y/N) and it'll all be over. But Newt decided against yelling at Jack since as much as he doesn't want to admit it, Jack knows more about this medical stuff than him.

"Jack," Newt tried to contain his voice.

"I know. I know," he said as he injected the virus inside (Y/N)'s body.

Harriet looked at the screen where (Y/N)'s vitals were being shown. She was waiting for the results, so were the other two.

"Now what?" Newt asked.

"We wait," Jack replied.

"For how long?"

"I don't know. But she's stable now." They all sighed in relief at that.

"Why don't we go to your room to fix you up?" Harriet suggested. Her eyes were casted down on the cut on his leg. Newt finally understood why he was feeling pain earlier.

"No," he shook his head. "I want to stay here, until she wakes up."

"You need to rest," she tried to persuade him.

"No," he repeated stubbornly.

Harriet opened her mouth to object but Jack silenced her with a look. "He can stay if he wants to," Jack settled the argument. "You need to rest as well and I can fix him up."

"I'll fix him up," Harriet argued. Jack tried to hide the smirk forming on his face because he found amusing how stubborn the two were. "Then I'll  rest," she finished.

Without missing a beat, she went out to get the first aid kit for Newt. Jack gave Newt a chair to sit on right beside (Y/N), which he thanked him for.

"You made it just in time," Jack told Newt. "Thank god you did."

"Yeah," Newt nodded. When he sat on the chair, he felt so exhausted. He reached out for (Y/N)'s hand and entangled his fingers in hers.

He was really glad that he made it just in time. He couldn't imagine it when he'd see that he finally got back but was too late, a second too late. The thought of her dead body lying on this bed crushed him into a million little pieces.

"How'd you get that?" Jack pointed at the cut on Newt's leg. It doesn't look too deep, but it still needed to be tended to or else it'll get infected.

"I don't remember," he shrugged. The only thing in his mind while he was in that building was that he had to get back to her. He had to save her. He didn't care what he had to do to make it happen.

Harriet came back with the first aid kit in her hands. She kneeled down to tend to her brother's wounds.

"Where are the others?" Harriet asked. Jack seemed curious too since he stared at Newt, waiting for the answers.

"We got separated."

Harriet had a shocked look on her face and so did Jack. "They can get out," Jack told them with confidence in his voice.

"Yeah," Newt sighs. "I know."

"I bet that they've been talking with Jorge," Jack said. "I'll go check up on them." He gave Newt a curt nod and Harriet a comforting squeeze on her shoulder before he left.

"How are you?" Newt asked Harriet.

"I'm fine. I have to admit that it was scary," she breathed in. "Having her die on my watch."

"I guess you know how I feel." Harriet gave her brother a look which asks for him to continue. "Well, there was a time when I thought that she was going to die. She thought it too and she accepted her fate."

"Why?"

"Don't judge her. She was just willing to save everyone, even if she dies herself. But I couldn't let her die on my watch."

Harriet smiled as she finished bandaging up Newt's leg. "There all better. I'll leave you two alone."

"Okay. Get some rest." Newt hugged Harriet and placed a kiss on her forehead.

"You too."
