POV: MAKO

is she always like that? I hope not, all that screaming gives me headaches. I sigh as I finish my last report of the day and add it on the stack of documents. The day was rough, I mess my hair up and massage my painful neck. How surprising, I am still the last one to leave the office.

My feet walk along the road for home, it's a little bit colder than I expect. Even so, I'm tired as hell I decide to go buy some meatballs for Boilin. As I walk in front of the fountain some children's laughter get my attention. There's a little girl and an older one sit on the paving stones, the younger shows the old one a little flame in the palm of her hands. The glow from the little fire let me see the delight of the girl. But wait a minute, I know that face. I bet she's lost. I change trajectory towards her.

- Let me guess you're lost?

She looks at me probably surprise.

- And you're right. She sighs and adds, I don't remember the name of the streets I'm supposed to shift.

- Come.

Yes I have pity of her and I can let her out here, Beifong would probably kill me. We walk in silence, she didn't even protest once. I look at her, she's trying to hide her face from the wind with the snare of her coat. I remove my scarf to put it on her, she looks at me a bit surprised and smiles.

- Thank you, she says softly.

- Welcome.

Should I ask her?

- I was thinking, I don't even know your name, she says gently punching my right arm.

Never mind she's faster than me.

- My name's Mako, you?

- Lucy Beifong-Fae.

I didn't even have the time to come up the stairs that Boilin jump off the couch.

- Mako sweet Jesus you're the best! Right, Pabu? Meatballs for everyone! yell Boilin.

- Wow, that's what you call a food lover, I heard Lucy says as she comes up.

- Boilin I want you to meet Lucy Beifong-Fae, she's...

- beautiful. Rustle Boilin looking at her with stars for eyes.

- I warn you, she's a bad temper.

Lucy looks at me with furrowed brows and her fists on her hips.

- Who's a bad temper? I smile and wink at her.

POV: LUCY

At that moment I feel my skin goes scarlet, does he think he's better? Offend I go sit on a couch, the boys join me a few minutes later with their favorite food in hand. I think again about the little girl of the fountain. She was so young and her bending was a million time better than mine. Great now I am sad... I sigh.

- Did it come naturally? I ask the brothers looking at my hands.

- Our bending? asks Boilin and I nod.

- Yeah in a certain way, it came naturally, why are you asking that? Respond Mako.

- Because I'm eighteen and a firebender, but I only can make sparkles. It's a real joke. I say as I bring my legs to my chest. I snap my fingers to show them, only little sparkles come out.

- It's a start, says Boilin smiling at me, I return his kindness.

- We'll figure it out tomorrow Lucy, now come we all need sleep. Goodnight Boilin. The younger Brother nod and wave.

Great, another bunch of stairs to climb, I'm so tired, I don't even bother to ask where I'm going to sleep.

- I'm going to lend you my bed for the night, I'll sleep on the couch downstairs.

- You're too tall to fit in it boy, I'll get it, I say yawning, I pat him on his shoulder.

- No, you're the guest so you sleep in the bed and cut it, he says exhausted.

- You're such a brat Moka!

- It is Mako, stupid.

- Pff, even so, this bed is quite enough big for both of us.

he agrees, the head in hands, discouraged.

- Last thing, can I borrow you a shirt?

- What? oh, yeah, sure...

He goes to his dresser and gets a redshirt for me.

***

I can't sleep. Insomnia is the worst thing that can happen to me. Because I have nothing to do, so I think, a lot. I turn around to face Mako. He looks so innocent when's sleeping, a lock of blacks hair falls on his forehead, I smile and put it back in place. At the same moment, the boy starts to struggle in panic.

- LEAVE THEM ALONE! he screams, his voice broke and tears start to fall down on his cheeks as he doesn't stop repeating the word ''mom''.

I don't know what to do. So, I skip instinctively behind his back and try to calm him as I can, while patting his hair and saying that it will be okay. Hopefully, it works well and I manage to find how to sleep, not noticing the fact that I'm still hugging Mako from behind.
