NaLu: Divergent AU
"Call me Salamander, Amity." Natsu teased, flinging a knife at a cardboard person. THUD. Bull's eye.
"That's a stupid name, Natsu." I rolled my eyes. "And don't call me Amity, you know it's Lucy."
"I thought Amity people were supposed to be friendly." He chuckled, another silver streak left his palm. THUD. Another Bull's eye.
"You're just the unlucky one who happened to help this year's only Amity transfer. You were branded as a transfer lover the moment you reached your hand out to help me on the train."
He snorted. "Unlucky? Me?" He laughed aloud. "You're talking to the Dauntless Salamander! Son of Igneel, leader of the Dauntless. No one has the guts to badmouth you while I'm around. I'll whip their tails!"
He laughed again, whipping a knife towards the target. THUD. Three.
Natsu WAS lucky. He was Dauntless born and bred. Me on the other hand, an Amity born, Dauntless transfer. Life isn't that easy.
I'll admit one thing. Seeing my dad's face as my blood fell on Dauntless's sizzling coals, and my mother's smile from Heaven, made that the best day of my life. Bar None.
Trying to divert my train of thought, picked up a knife and flung it at the pseudo-person.
It clattered of the cement floor.
Natsu chuckled. "And here I thought Amity were good with weapons. Don't you have to skin deer and stuff there?"
THUD. Four. (Wink Wink)
"That's a factional stereotype. Like how some people think Erudites are geeks and nerds."
"I don't know, that one might be true."
I whacked him upside the head.
"Hey! I have a right to say that! My sister, Wendy, went Erudite to study medicine." He said, rubbing his sore spot.
"I had a friend who transferred to Erudite too. What a coincidence. You remember Levy McGarden?"
"Small? Blue hair?" He asked.
"That's her. She went to study ancient languages and linguistics."
"Wendy said something about another blue haired girl helping with the Latin terminology in her med. books. That might've been her!"
"I'd bet money on it!"
He chuckled. "Anyway, you don't skin deer in Amity?"
"Just because we live off the land doesn't mean we're- what's the word?"
"Bumpkins?" Natsu supplied with a flick of the wrist. THUD. Five.
"That'll do."
I picked up another knife and let it fly.
It fell to the floor with a metallic clang.
"You're throwing it wrong."
I huffed. "I can see that."
"Look, see?"
He held the knife perfectly balanced in his callused fingertips. With a flick of the wrist, THUD! Six.
I balanced the blade. "Like this?"
"Good Luce!" He came behind me and reached underneath my arms to guide my wrists. "Now aim."
He scooted my wrist upwards.
He whispered..."Fire."
THUD.
Perfect.
