When it rains, it pours (14)

"Hello, Caleb, it's me," I said into the microphone of my cell phone as soon as the young god answered my call.

"Great. Let me guess, you've found a new way to drive me crazy and you just can't wait to try it out!" He said sarcastically.

"Actually, I'm just calling to tell you that I won't be able to make it, today. I thought you'd be happy to know."

"Oh, alright. Why not?" He asked in a neutral tone, not sounding happy nor disappointed.

"Oh, it's nothing interesting. I've just got some business to attend to. Homework and stuff," I explained dismissively. "I'll be back for you another day."

I waited for his answer, paying very close attention for any possible clues it might give me. I was desperate to know the truth. If my suspicions were right, he could be my tickle-buddy. Maybe even more. After everything we've been through, it would hardly be awkward to have a consenting Lee/ler relationship.

"Okay. Bye."

"KK, I've got to get going in a minute. Do you need anything before I head out?"

"I'm fine, daddy," I assured for the fifth time. "I know where everything is. I know where to get anything we don't have. The walk isn't too far anywhere I'll need to go. I'm fine."

"Good, that's good. Make sure you get your essays done. Work well."

"I will. I should get it done today. I'll try to get some good work done," I said, thoughts of Caleb instantly entering my mind.

"That's my boy. I love you, KK. I'll be back home tomorrow. Monday at the absolute latest," my father told me, hugging me goodbye before picking up his bags and stepping out to start the car.

"Bye, dad," I sighed, knowing he couldn't hear me. "Enjoy your trip. And Lord help me get my homework done without thinking of Caleb too much..."

To my own surprise, I managed to work quite well, despite my longing to feel Caleb writhing beneath me. My essay was practically finished by suppertime. I had only the conclusion left to write. However, it was then that I encountered a slight problem...

A thunderstorm had started. The flashes of lightning brightened the entire living room. The thunderclaps rendered me paralyzed at the sheer volume. The storm was right above

Calm yourself, Aiken, I told myself. You're at home, perfectly safe. You're not alone; you're protected.

But then I realized how wrong I was. I was completely alone. There was nobody here to protect me if anything happened to me! If something happened to hurt me, I'd never be found! Oh, no... Oh no, oh no... But what can I do? I can't call my father; I'm nineteen years old! I can't be that pathetic. But I've got nobody else! I've got no friends. But maybe... No way. I can't! If I called him... Oh, but I've got no choice! I only hope I don't regret this... I don't know what I'd do if he started to make fun of me for this...

"What is it now?" Caleb asked somewhat rudely when he answered my call.

"Um, a-are you free?" I asked, my nervousness very clear in my voice.

"What do you want?" He asked me, no longer sounding rude at all. Maybe he could hear my feelings.

"Look, is there any chance I could come over?"

"Not now," he groaned, "it's late, I'm hungry, I feel like shit..."

"Not for that!" I assured him, knowing exactly what he was thinking I meant. "I mean just to... Hang out."
