Chapter 2: The First Sighting
"Please be careful," Freya sighs as she sees her brother getting ready to leave for the start of his second year at Forks High. The vampire group had yet to leave the area and Freya never liked the idea of her brother being in such danger with being so close to the few vampires that attended the very same school.
"I always am," Kota chuckles, smiling down at his younger sister. They were only a year apart in age, so they were naturally very close and people often mistakes them as twins. Kota always found it funny how concerned his sister got every morning he left for school. From what he could tell, the vampires were pretty harmless, or as harmless as their kind could be, but nothing he could ever say would be enough to calm his sister's worries.
"I wish I could be there with you," Freya sighs. She hated that she wasn't allowed to attend the school as well. She hated that Kota had to be there all alone, or well not completely alone as a few other members of the coven still attended the school, but that just wasn't quite the same.
Kota was about to reassure his sister once again but stopped as he noticed his mother entering the room. "Honestly Freya you need to stop entertaining such thoughts. You are of much more use here. The Sisters won't be able to get a good enough read on you if you're spending all your time at some silly mundane school. Your brother can handle himself just fine," Leonora Knight reminds her younger child as she makes her presence known. Freya simply bowed her head and muttered a quiet apology in response knowing there was no use in trying to argue with her mother. Kota quickly wraps Freya's smaller frame in his arms, mummering softly that he'll be ok and she'll see him tonight for dinner, before grabbing his backpack and heading out the door to catch a ride with the other kids that attended school.
"Your father and I will be busy most of the day at the clinic, so if you desperately need anything then you can find us there, otherwise we'll see you at dinner," Leonora informs her daughter as she gathers her things to head off for the day. Dominic soon joins his wife, greeting Freya briefly with a pat on her arm and soon enough, both of her parents were out the door; and once again, Freya was alone, like she had been for the majority of her life.
Freya didn't necessarily have any qualms over being alone. She learned at a young age how to take care of herself. There were always much more important things to be doing. While the other kids were playing, Freya was studying, while everyone else was having fun, Freya was staying behind to help someone else in need. She spent hours on her appearance, know appearance is everything, as her mother taught her, you only get one chance to make a first impression, so it's best to always be looking your best. Freya didn't worry much about her feelings, she was always shoving them down in order to keep a happy face, because "that's what leaders do," as her mom says, and according to her mother, Freya was destined to be a leader.
Freya was straying from her usual routine this day, as she had been requested to help with the reinforcement of the protection wards and illusion enchantments that kept the land her coven occupied safe. She was happy that it was actually a fairly pleasant day as she headed off into the woods, making her way to the area she was assigned to work on the previous day. Where Forks, Washington was usually a wet a dreary place, today it was nice and dry, the sun is out, the birds were happily singing, and overall everything put Freya in an extremely pleasant mood.
It took Freya an hour or so as she worked on the wards and enchantments. This wasn't necessarily her strongest suit in magic, but she certainly wasn't all that bad at it either. Kota was the one who was much better at this kind of thing though. He would normally be covering this area, but as he was busy with school once again, Freya was sought out in his absence. When Freya finished, she was more than ready to head back when the trickling of the river nearby peaked her interest. It was such a nice day out, and she had brought along with her a few snacks, she figured it couldn't hurt to stay outside of the enchantments for a little longer to simply enjoy the beauty Mother Earth has bestowed upon nature. Simply enjoying the pleasure of what this earth has to offer is a big part of what her people stand for anyways.
