Chapter 10: Meeting the Cullens

The walk to the kitchen took longer than Freya would've liked. She didn't like being so weak, but she supposed between hardly eating for over a week on top of performing intense activity and then being sick, your body was bound to not be at one hundred percent. If she were at home, her mother would've of just whipped something up to give her a boost of artificial energy to keep her moving at the same pace she always did. There was no sitting around in the Knight household, no being sick, and absolutely no quitting. If someone was feeling too down for something, her parents had an artificial something or other that would get them back on their feet until the real cure to the issue since the magical remedies to the root issues were never instant.

There was high chair waiting for Freya at the island counter where a slew of fruits and vegetables and some meats were laid out, obviously too much for a single Freya too eat, especially in the state she was currently in. Esme and Alice weren't quite sure what Freya liked, plus they couldn't go for anything too rich, so they just got a wide variety of things to help the chances that they'd actually get something she liked. With a little help from Jasper getting into the chair that was a little too tall for Freya to easily get into with her shorter than average stature, Freya couldn't help but stare at all the food laid out, having no idea where to start.

A plate was placed in front of Freya as soon as she was seated, along with a napkin and some cutlery, and Freya just then noticed the brunette woman with a very kind and caring air surrounding her. It wasn't hard to figure that she was the "mother" in this living situation. "Freya this is Esme, my adoptive mother so to speak. Esme, Freya." Jasper introduces awkwardly. He wasn't sure how this was supposed to work. His entire family were under the assumption that Freya was Jasper's mate. So far the two hadn't even gotten anywhere near being on that level, and Jasper was still extremely skeptical that they ever would.

"Nice to meet you, thank you for the food and hospitality," Freya says with a polite smile. She may not be a fan of what her hosts were, but hell would have to freeze over before Freya forgot her manners.

"Oh it's nice to finally meet you as well. Jasper hasn't really said much himself, but his brother Edward has been having plenty of fun torturing the poor boy and telling us all about you," Esme chuckles. Freya didn't quite understand how this "Edward" would know so much about her, but she simply nodded in response, figuring it was something she'd need to figure out latter. She'd also have to add to the list how Jasper had mentioned his one sister having a vision. As far as Freya was aware vampires didn't have such capabilities, so it was curious for it to be implied otherwise. "Please eat, we didn't know what you'd like so we just kinda got everything, but don't feel pressured to eat more than you can stomach," Esme continues, eager to see how Freya liked what they had prepared for her.

It was weird for Freya to be the only one eating. She felt more self conscious than she could ever remember feeling. She couldn't stomach much anyways, so it didn't take long before she was done. "Thank you again for the food," Freya says, to break the awkward silence that hung around the room.

"Are you sure that's all you want to eat?" Esme questions, just wanting to make sure the girl wasn't trying to be polite by not eating too much. Freya had hardly touched anything, mostly sticking to the fruit, Esme worried they hadn't gotten much of anything she would like after all.

"Yeah I think I'm probably just not able to handle too much yet," Freya replies kindly, genuinely hoping that she wasn't offending Esme by not eating anything more. "I'm sure I'll come get a little bit more later, but perhaps may leave the meat out of the equation. I'm a vegetarian,"

Esme' s eyes nodded at the mention of Freya being a vegetarian. It shocked her that Alice hadn't seen that so they would've been able to avoid offering any meat to their guest. "You know, that's funny, we're vegetarians too!" Emmett's booming voice breaks through the momentary lapse of silence. Freya couldn't help but be taken aback by this guy. Not only was he absolutely huge, but his energy was also a little bit overwhelming. Freya's eyebrows only furrow in confusion at this statement though, not sure how that was really possible. "We only feed off of animals, so its like the vampire version of vegetarian," Emmett goes on to explain as he sees the confusion on the new girl's face. This time around his words weren't as jubilant as they had previously been. Freya was clearly giving off signs of discomfort at the mention of their eating habits.

"Please ignore Emmett," a soft, bell like voice floats through the air as a dark haired, pixie like girl bounces into the room. "I'm Alice, it's so nice to meet you. I'm so excited for what's in store for you and Jazzy over there," Alice grins, nodding towards the blonde vampire who hadn't strayed far from Freya's side since she sat down. He wasn't quite hovering over her, but it was pretty darn close. Freya didn't seem to notice how attentive Jasper was being to her, she was too busy trying to keep up with all that she was trying to process with all the new people.

"Alice you're going to scare the girl off before she even has a chance to recover," a striking blonde girl says in a bored tone as she enters the kitchen which was suddenly feeling a lot smaller than it had when Freya originally came in here. It was shocking for the other's to see Rosalie stick up for their guest, but she was only doing it because she could see how uncomfortable Jasper was starting to get with his family's unexpected assault on Freya. The big, burly man, who Freya was assuming was Emmett from Alice's previous statement, took the much smaller blonde in his arms, a fond smile crossing onto his face as he looked down at her. Freya could immediately tell the two were soul bonded partners. She had seen that look on so many of the couple's faces back at her coven. Plus, the way the two's energy meshed was truly like no other. They were clearly very strong in their bond.

Freya felt a small twinge of jealousy seeing the love the two vampires shared. She has been dreaming of finding her destined other half ever since she knew such a thing as "soul mates" exist. Freya began to feel as if she were never going to find her destined partner back in the coven though. None of the guys around her age in the coven had appealed to Freya, not that her mother would've let her near any of them anyways.

"I think we should allow Freya to get some more rest, she's still recovering." Jasper finally speaks up, stoping his family from badgering Freya any more than they already had.

"Mm yes I think that's probably a good idea," Freya agrees, silently thanking Jasper for the escapee he offered.

They got back to the room Freya originally woke up in. Jasper made quick work of getting her hooked back up to all that she had been previously. She found it strange that he knew his way around the medical equipment so well, but considering he lived with a doctor, she supposed it made sense. "I'll leave you to rest now," Jasper says softly once Freya was all settled in. If he could, he wouldn't leave Freya alone, but it would just be strange for him to do so at this moment in time as they were just acquaintances at this point.

"Thank you," Freya says suddenly, just as Jasper is about to walk out the door, "for saving mei guess, and taking me in until I recover, I really appreciate it."

"No need to thank me darlin," Jasper grins, "Couldn't leave a cute little thing like you out there all alone," he continues, a wicked smirk sliding onto his face. Freya's jaw nearly dropped at this statement. She couldn't decipher if he was flirting with her or not, seeing as it was such a sudden change in mood. She could feel her cheeks heating up, but tried to clear her mind of the comment never the less. Freya couldn't let herself go there with him. They came from two completely different worlds. She'd only get herself hurt entertaining any other thoughts.
