Chapter 13: Forks High

Freya was freaking out her flirts day at Forks High School. She had gotten some clothes from another girl in the coven who attended school outside the coven as well, and so Freya was dressed the part in a pair of ripped jeans, and a slouchy black sweater. The clothes were fun, but nothing Freya was usually caught in, so she couldn't help but feel a little uncomfortable/awkward in the get up.

Freya and her brother got a ride to the school with one of the few adults in the coven who owned a car. Aerin Peters drove all the kids that attended public school into town and then picked them up at the end of the day. Kota tried his best to reassure his sister that everything would be fine, and that she would do just fine, but none of his reassurances calmed her at all. The high school aged kinds were dropped off last, after stopping at the elementary and middle school first. Freya felt as if she wanted to throw up as she got out of the car, or more like small bus, but somehow she managed to hold her head high and fake an air of confidence.

"We need to go get your class schedule from the office. Unfortunately I won't have any classes with you since I'm a year ahead, but Annabelle should have at least one or two with you," Kota informs, slinging his arm a round his baby sister and steering her towards the entrance of the school. Everyone was staring as the two siblings walked through the parking lot. Freya had hoped to not attract this much attention, but it was hard for the siblings not to draw the attention of any onlookers.

The siblings were like night and day. Kota stood tall at 6'2'' and he inherited his darker features from their father with the jet black hair and tanned skin. Freya got her lighter features from their mom with the silvery blonde hair that cascaded down her back in soft waves and pale skin. The two almost wouldn't seem related if it weren't for their purple eyes, a trait that wasn't completely uncommon among their kinds, but also still rare. It put an immediate target on their backs if anyone one knew anything about witches. Fortunately, most people tricked themselves into believing that their eyes were a weird shade of blue as opposed to the obvious purple they actually were because they couldn't believe anyone naturally had that shade of irises.

Freya had put her hair up in a top knot to try and hide the slight unnatural shimmer it had to it. She was doing everything she could to appear more mundane than she normally did. Her mother bragged that their beauty came from having elvish blood mixed into their system at one point, giving that unnatural shimmer to both the siblings hair and skin. Even among the coven, the siblings stood out. "Everyone is staring," Freya mutters as they finally enter the building of the school and manage to escape some of the stares.

"Of course they are," Kota chuckles, not seeming fazed by the stares at all. "It's a small town. It's not often someone new shows up. . . Plus, they can sense our otherness. Try as hard as we may, but the mundane aren't completely oblivious. Wait till you see how they react to the vamps. If you think they're staring at us, then I don't even know what they do when it comes to the bloodsuckers," Kota snickers, turning the two abruptly to enter the main office. "This is Freya Knight, my sister, it's her first day here," he announces to the lady at the desk who beams back at him. This lady might be much older than her brother, but it was obvious to Freya that the woman was completely enamored by her brother's good looks and charming smile. He had always been quite the ladies man.

"Here you go sweetie," the lady grins, handing a small stack of paper to Freya, "That's your schedule and locker assignment. I also included a map of the school, but I'm sure your brother should be able to help you find your way around. The last sheet is something you'll need to get signed by each of your teachers and turn in at the end of the day."

"Thank you," Freya replies, offering an equally as blinding smile as Kota did to the woman. Kota snatched Freya's schedule out of her hands as he steered her out of the office and quickly found her locker assignment.

Dumping all the books she didn't need immediately into her locker, Freya waited for her brother to finish examining her schedule. "Unfortunately you don't have as many classes with Annabelle as I hoped," Kota mutters, frowning ever so slightly. "Well, we'll make do with what we can. I'll meet you after every class to escort you to your next class. Hopefully you shouldn't run into the bloodsuckers too much, but most of them are in the same year as you," Kota grumbles.

Freya paused for a brief moment, hearing this new information. It was going to be hard enough to avoid the Cullens being in such a small school, having the majority of them in the same grade as her only made it worse. After gathering the necessary items, Kota walked Freya to her first class, biology. Freya was beyond thankful to see no Cullens occupying the classroom, giving her a good start to the day.

Kota had been right, these classes were extremely easy to keep up in. Although there wasn't much being done that first day, Freya could tell she would have no problem doing the course work. She was lucky enough to only have Edward in one of her classes as he was the one member of the vampire clan that she had personally interacted with the least. She had to very consciously keep a shield up on her thoughts, but other than that, it wasn't too difficult to go unnoticed by the group. With her scent masked by a special potion, she didn't have to worry about that triggering any of their memories either. Freya ate lunch with the rest of her coven members in the library. They all could agree that they wanted to be around the Cullens as little as possible.

Months went by, and Freya was pleasantly surprised how easy it had been to attend Forks High. She struggled very little in most of her subjects. The only place that was proving to be difficult was U.S. history. She had never bothered with the mundane's history, instead she had focused on supernatural history. She had to spend a substantial amount of time outside of school trying to catch up in that class, but other than that bump in the road, Freya found herself actually enjoying high school. It was fascinating how different things were outside of the coven. The people there seemed to have so much freedom, and yet they didn't seem very content with their lives. There was so much to do and see, Freya was learning of all these fun things, and yet she could only dream of ever being able to participate in any of the things she heard. She was only to be outside the coven grounds during school hours, anything beyond that wasn't even an option.

There were only a few close calls with the Cullens. Some odd looks from Alice after having been looking for the same book in the library. Edward occasionally trying to pry into her mind. One particular run in with Jasper that nearly blew everything. She had been nearly ready to leave the school when she literally ran straight into the honey blonde vampire. "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry," Freya blurts out, blinking up into his golden eyes that darkened just the slightest bit as he locked eyes with her.

"No the fault is all mine," Jasper replied, tilting his head slightly as the two continued to stare at each other. A confused expression crossed his face as he took in the much shorter girl. She seemed so familiar, and yet he couldn't recall ever meeting her. The only recollection he had of this girl were brief passings in the hall here and there. He didn't know how he had manage to collide with this girl either.

"Well, I have to go, sorry again," Freya mutters quickly, ducking her head and effectively breaking the eye contact the two had held for those few brief moments as she collected her dropped bag. She wished she didn't have to rush away, that she could stay to chat with her former forest companion, but alas she couldn't risk entertaining such foolish fantasies. She couldn't risk and of the Cullens remembering her again. Little did Freya know that come January, everything would change.

Author's Note: I am so so so sorry it has been so long since my last update. I got caught up in midterms and school stuff so that kind of consumed all my time for a brief  while. I promise I'll be getting back to more frequent updates from here on. Things will be picking up in the story as well so that should be exciting.
