Chapter 7: Moments in the Woods
March: "So how old are you?" Freya asks the dashing blonde vampire, giggling at the way Jaspers nose scrunched up in distaste at her question.
"Don't you know it's rude to ask someone their age?" Jasper shoots back, the lazy smile on his face showing he didn't really mind the question.
"Yeah but you're like really old I bet. Questions like this shouldn't bother you anymore," Freya counters, her grin so wide it hurt. Of course Jasper couldn't actually see it, but he could feel the waves of happiness radiating off of her, in turn making him feel loads better.
"The day you reveal yourself to me is the day I'll tell you how old I am," Jasper responds with a smirk, fully aware that day just might never come.
"No fair!" Freya pouts. He was smart though. She was withholding things from him, so it was only natural for Jasper to withhold things from her. And it just might happen if her curiosity got the best of her.
"Life isn't fair darlin," Jasper retorts, his accent nearly making Freya melt on the spot in that very moment. He was too gorgeous for his own good she decided.
April: "Are you ok?" Freya questions the moment Jasper met her at their usual spot. He looked very worn out, and wasn't standing as tall as he usually did.
"I just got in a argument with my sister, that's all," Jasper sighs, not wanting to bring his bad mood onto Freya.
Freya desperately wished she could reach out to comfort him, but knew she shouldn't. "What was the argument about?" Freya questions, not wanting him to keep all his feeling bundled up inside.
"She thinks meeting up with you is dangerous," Jasper states bluntly, not wanting to withhold the truth from Freya when she genuinely seemed so concerned for him.
"Oh..." Freya didn't know why this had shocked her so much to hear. She, of course would never classify herself as dangerous, but she could see from their point of view that with all the unknown surrounding her, it was risky to be meeting up with her, and that in itself was very dangerous.
"Don't worry about her though, Rosalie doesn't really like anyone or anything," Jasper tries to amend quickly, not wanting Freya to believe he also thought she was dangerous. "But will I ever get to see you?" Jasper couldn't help but ask once again.
"I don't know," Freya mutters, giving him the same response she always did. It was dangerous for him to be meeting someone he couldn't even see, and it was dangerous for her to let him ever see her. Maybe life was trying to give them an obvious sign that they were bound to end up hurting to other; and yet neither of them could seem to walk away from what little they could have in these moments.
May: "Favorite color?" Jasper asks.
"Midnight blue," Freya responds instantly. "Favorite place you've lived?"
"Texas," Jasper responds, a wistful look in his eyes.
"Is that where you were born?"
"Yeah. Born and raised," Jasper confirms, "Where I would've spent my life probably. If things hadn't gone the way they did." He sighs, getting a far off look in his eyes.
"Hm that explains the accent," Freya nods. "Care to share your story?"
"Ahh not so fast Miss Freya. You don't get to know more than you're willing to share yourself," Jasper chuckles, and Freya can't help but smile in return. They were both laughing in this moment, and yet there was an underlying solemness to the moment. They were both so afraid of being vulnerable, of opening up, of getting hurt, and so the companionship remained just that once again. Never moving forwards or backwards, just staying in a comfortable spot to avoid any hardships that would come with making these meetings mean any more than what they were up to this point.
Author's Note: So ok this was really short but I'm planning something much longer for the next chapter. Thanks for reading ✨💖
