It was in the quiet of the forest that Mikasa and Armin sat in anguish and confusion. Neither uttered a word, afraid of what had just happened and what might come to be. Both did know that they needed to process the situation, Mikasa especially.
"Armin..." Mikasa started, looking to the dwarf who got startled by her voice.
"Y-yes... what is it?" He asked, staying a good enough distance just in case Mikasa decided to blow.
"Eren... She's really gone isn't she? She left and probably not coming back. I lost her. I promised to always protect her," she turned to Armin, "but how can I protect her if I'm not by her side!"
The dwarf shook his head at her question and then fixed his little hat. "I don't know Mikasa, I really don't know. I mean a human took her, and dealing with the human world is so much more different then our world, especially in this day and age," he replied, inching closer to the girl.
Mikasa stood up, and Armin saw an apparent scowl on her face. "You are right Armin, a human took her, but we can get her back. If not with peace then by force," Mikasa declared as Armin shivered in his boots at the threat.
"How are you and I going to get Eren back from a group of humans?"
"The saying is that to beat them, we have to join them."
"Oh no, please don't say what I think your saying."
"You and I will become knights."
"I knew you would say that."
In the Castle, as Levi was tying Eren's dress when Hanji burst into his room, putting Eren in shock. "Who are you?" Eren asked, forcing her blush to disappear as Levi finished tying the dress.
"I am Hanji Zoe, and you are an important specimen!" Hanji rejoiced happily dashing over to the hybrid and inspecting every part of her body from her arms to her face. "And before you both say anything, Commander Eyebrows told me the whole story, and I am astounded beyond my greatest beliefs! A hybrid, how marvelous!"
At the mention of Erwin, Eren quickly broke from Hanji's grasp and gave off a loud growl, her eyes becoming slits once more.
"Eren," Levi commanded putting a hand on her shoulder, "you can stand down. You do not need to worry about bug eyes over there or Erwin."
"Tsk, whatever." Levi looked questionably at Eren. "Yes, okay fine I understand!" Her eyes went back to their normal appearance as the Captain walked over to Hanji and slapped her upside her head.
"Ow! That hurt shortie!" She said, rubbing the possible bruise on her head. "Here I am trying to be nice and here you are mean as always. Or maybe you don't appreciate anyone else touching your property?"
"Please, I don't appreciate you touching anything and if I had a say in the matter you'd already be without hands," Levi coolly replied, causing sweat to drip from Hanji's forehead. "But aside from that, Eren, this is Hanji Zoe, top magician and scientist specialist of the Survey Corps. Sadly she's our most qualified magician," he said with a sigh.
Eren nodded as Hanji prowled closer. Eren began backing up like she was being cornered and started feeling threatened.
Hanji just had her mad scientist smile on and moved closer as to where the hybrid started retracting her claws about to slash at her when the scientist jumped back in joy.
Then from her back pocket, a notepad and quill appeared and Hanji began writing down information. "Perfect. The subject is likely to get provoked when threatened or backed into a corner by unfamiliar people," she mumbled over her breath and grinned at her work.
"Aww... this is so great!" Hanji elicited in joy, elated with her new discoveries.
To that reaction Levi smacked Hanji on her goggles, causing her to wince in pain.
"That's enough. You've seen her and now you can leave now," the knight stated with a cold, unbearable stare leaving no run for discussion.
Hanji just quickly ran out the door, yelling on her way out, "Alright but I'll be back later!"
"You make it sound like I am a attraction to be gazed at," Eren said from behind Levi.
She was at eye level with Levi and his shoulder blade and could only stare at the open door waiting for something.
Her feet moved around him and the hybrid partly made a run for the door.
"Ah!"
"Honestly Levi, you should be more careful about where you keep your things," Erwin said blocking the doorway, crushing Eren's wrist in his hand.
"Mikasa, your out of your mind!" Armin yelled trying to stop Mikasa from proceeding onward.
"No, I'm not. The only way to get Eren back is to go into the den. The den of humans. I'll get Eren back no matter what it takes," she replied, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
"Come on this is way too dangerous! If they found out about us, or if we got Eren in trouble, we'd be persecuted! Killed!" Armin explained logically, as this was his way of handling things.
Mikasa grabbed Armin and turned to him, staring him dead in his face. "No! No, you don't understand!" She cried with fury lacing her voice. "I made a promise to Eren's mom! I would protect and no one else." Through gritted teeth she said, "Let. Me. Through."
Armin sucked in his breath and ran his hands to and from his hair and nodded.
"Thank you," Mikasa started walking off when the dwarf grabbed her wrist. "Armin I said-"
"I know, because I'm coming with you."
"Armin..."
"Let's go get Eren back!"
