to the moon

a carnival, yes, that's where it started

two little kids, and a bunny shaped constellation,

laughing over the moon, under the stars

he would never forget her toothy grin that night.

he looked over his shoulder, past his tiny little backpack,

but, by the means of fate, she left without a trace

the next year, he waited for her, and she for him

they found each other waiting by the stars.

he smiled sadly and said, "if we ever get lost again, let's find each other on the moon."

a soft pinky promise on a foggy night.

she held his hand very gently, scared to let him disappear

so he gave her his heart so she would not forget him.

he had lost his memory shortly after, but

fate interfered once more, and they met once again.

wedding bells, although

he never remembered her from the carnival.

she made him tiny paper bunnies, so he could recollect,

and he never did. he would never remember her.

many, many years passed,

and she died after all the painful times he never recalled her.

he lived on with an unexplainable desire

to go to the moon.

but he could not understand why, he died frowning.

and with their graves adjacently placed beside each other,

people say that the two met once again,

and

flew

to

the

moon.
