Selena's POV:
I felt honored to walk aside the great boss of our pack. Well.. behind actually. Whenever I tried to walk right next to him, he always looked me in the eyes for a moment and took a few big steps so I would fall behind again. Perhaps he wanted to go front. "So.." I began, trying to keep up with his long legs. "Where exactly are we going?" I asked. "The authorities." "What authorities?" "Penariks of the East." He explained. "There are higher authorities in our pack?" "Not in our pack. In our hidden hierarchy." "Are they the boss over you?" I asked further, wondering what exactly he meant. He chuckled for a moment but kept his eyes on his front view. "Nobody is the boss over me. They simply have bigger flocks." He explained. His description reminded me of the flock I was in once, six years ago. "Won't they.. pull you in? I mean, it's in our nature." I didn't want to make it sounds like I had that experience. I didn't want him to know I was once one of those horrible mindless monsters. Not yet, anyway. "No. I can't because I'm an alpha myself. However, you'll have to stay outside of the cave." His eyes glanced at me once more. I looked at the ground, thinking. "If I can't go in, why did you ask me to come with you?" "An alpha without any beta is nothing. So it's either we're worth 2, or I'm worth 0." "Then why didn't you ask Sage to come with you? He seems to have a high status. At least higher than mine." "Because it doesn't matter what status a Penarik has when he plays bodyguard for a little while. It wouldn't have mattered." "Then why me?" "Because I want to show you and warn you about the wrong Penariks. The ones that are able to destroy your life. And I want to show you the alphas that control the packs and Anti-packs." "But-" I wanted to ask another question, but he suddenly stood still and looked at me. He almost towered over me, it scared me. "That's enough questions, for now, don't you think?" He said with a threatening face. I gulped and nodded swiftly. He turned back to where we were heading and walked further. Still, I felt honored to go with him, but I felt like walking on eggshells with him. If I said one word wrong, he could hurt me just like how Bini hurt Mata by twisting her arm.
Demi's POV:
"Yes, I'll make sure of it.. I'm sorry. Just.. give me a few days perhaps. I'll do my regular work out.. yeah, bye." I hung up on my coach and placed my phone down. I laid myself down on the ground and started doing sit-ups. "One. Two. Three. Four.." "What in Surga's name are you doing?" I quickly sat up and saw Mata standing in the doorway. I leaned on my elbows and looked at her. "Working out." "Ah yes, Selena told us you're some sort of sports freak." She smiled faintly. Selena probably didn't say it like that, did she? "Actually, I've won many prices in the kickboxing world. I'm fighting in the WKN champion league." I got up, considering to go further once Mata's left. "Impressive." She spoke a bit sarcastically. "Where did you meet Siren?" "You mean Selena?" "However you want to call our new meat." She grinned and crossed her arms. I couldn't stand this girl. I sighed. "I met her at my high school. When I was eighteen." "When did you find out she was a Penarik then?" "Well.." I sat down on my bed. "We became friends. We had a fight and then her shadows pulled out her soul." "Do they do that often? Mine aren't very short-tempered." "Well, they can't. Not anymore." I answered. Mata widened her eyes for a moment, realizing something. "What?" "She had been taken by a flock?" "How do you know?" "There's no other way that ability of her shadows could be taken away. She must have been bonded with an alpha's shadow once. It's basic knowledge. The connection with the shadows would never be the same again." She thought for a moment. "How did she survive?" "I saved her.." This conversation started to feel like an interrogation. And yet, I wasn't sure if I should even open up to this woman so much. "You did huh?" Now she did seem impressed, but she didn't show it too much. "Is she pretty in full form?" "Full form?" "Yes." "I don't know what you mean by that." I shook my head. Mata smiled again for a moment, as her eyes suddenly turned grey and vague. My heart started speeding a bit. I could see her skin getting ugly and grey again. Her blood vanes became visible, and her lips dried up. She looked me dead in the eye. Her appearance gave me flashbacks of Selena's comparable appearance, back when she was in that dreadful cave. "Oh, that form. I.. I find her prettier when she's normal." I nodded. "I'll see soon." "What do you mean?" "Oh didn't you hear? Ketua is testing Selena right now. He's speculating whether she can join the pack or not." She smiled. I widened my eyes, taken aback. "What?! She can't join the pack. We're going home soon." "Oh, are you? Hmm, you should tell the boss. Although, I'm not sure if he'll be so happy with your statement." I frowned and looked down. I didn't want her to join the pack at all. I never wanted that. What if she can't leave once she's joined?
