Chapter 2: Making an ass of ones self

"Curiosity killed the cat."

-Unknown

"I'm getting sick and tired of your shit Curr!" My boss growled. "One more slip up and you'll be out of a job!"

I kept my head down. In these situations it's best to keep my mouth shut. Last time I spoke a word he nearly lost it and practically was in my face screaming at the top of his lungs.

Slam

I flinched looking up meeting angry green orbs.

"Are you even paying attention Curr?!"

His face wrinkled up and turned a blotchy red, saliva spraying past his perfect white teeth and onto my face. He was so close I could smell the perfume of the secretary he has been cheating on his wife with. I looked past him and caught the eye of one of my nosy coworkers. She stood back enjoying the show my boss was making of me. This would would without a doubt be the topic of interest for a very long time. I averted my gaze and said nothing.

I shuffled down the familiar path toward the coffee shop and looked up to where Edmund usually resigned. He still had the same trench coat and knee high riding boots on but his scarf and knit cap were missing. He took a sip from a portable coffee container, his eyes trained on the tree. The breeze drifted his neatly combed hair up ever so slightly, his swollen lips parting. He was truly an attractive man. Our eyes locked. His brow arched and I shuffled forward slightly.

He half faced me his eyes drifting to the coffee shop and then back at me. I gladly took the invitation and we walked over and took the same table from yesterday. He had on a similar white button down like yesterday, a crisp red bow tie with thin black vertical stripes on either side, gold skull cuff links amd dark wash jeans that fit fairly snug.

He looked up catching me staring and I looked away flushing. Out the corner of my eye he took a silent sip from his mug seeming to brush me off.

"So, are you ever going to tell me your name or shall I just call you the weird kid who keeps staring at me."

I nearly choked on my own saliva.

"M-my names Joseph Curr."

He nodded and interlaced his fingers.

"Why is it that you watch me so intently Joseph Curr?"

I moistened my lips unsure of what to say.

"Um...you looked so...enamored by that tree and it was...interesting."

He took no time in furthering my embarrassment.

"I fascinate you like some sort of science experiment."

My eyes widened.

"N-no nothing like that!"

He flinched back holding his hand.

"I-I'm so sorry."

I snatched up an unholy amount of napkins and dabbed the coffee from his hand and shirt.

"Are you alright? I'm r-really sorry. I always make a mess some way or another."

I smacked the side of my head and sat back.

"Sorry I tend to ramble when I'm nervous-not that you make me nervous!"

He frowned observing me silently. I averted my eyes and took a sudden interest in my khaki pants.

"Meet me here on Sunday at 11. No sooner no later. Exactly at 11."

He stood up and slipped his jacket back on. His dark locks falling forward casting shadows across his face.

"Alright." I croaked.

He nodded and tossed some money on the table and walked away. I sighed heavily raking my hands though my hair, a wave of exhaustion passing over me. Am I going to regret speaking to Edmund Fig? Is he off his rocker? I just made a complete fool of myself and spilled coffee all over him and he has invited to me meet with him again. I leaned back unsure if I should be overjoyed or worried. I sighed letting my head fall back. You are truly an enigma Edmund Fig.
