"Lizzy, are you ok?" one of my closest friends, Sam, asked. She looked down at me through her black rimmed glasses. Despite her glasses, she was very pretty. Her blond hair pulled back in a messy ponytail. She held out a hand to pull me up and I took it, grateful.

Once I was back on my feet, I looked around quickly, to make sure no one saw my embarassing display. I sighed in relief when the only sight I was rewarded with was an old couple in a booth on the other side of the cafe and the employer behind the front desk. The couple was too busy staring at each other to notice, but the woman behind the counter smiled at me, probably trying to refrain from laughing until I was out of earshot.

I blushed, grabbing Sam by the hand to pull her out of the building before I did anything else embarassing. Sam shook her head at me as we walked down the busy streats of Battle Creek, Michigan, but a smile played on her lips anyway.

We made our way through the bustling streets to the bookstore that we both work at. Sam was actually the one who got me the job. I didn't really need a job with my mom working as a nurse and my dad as an architect. But it gave me an excuse to hang out with Sam and having a little pocket money was never a bad idea.

"Wow, your not late, someone better grab a camera." Ethan, my other best friend said as we emerged through the sliding glass doors. I smiled and put my purse in the breakroom before walking back over to my friends.

Ethan was the first person to talk to me my first year of elementary school and we've been close every since. His black hair fell into his brown eyes and I rose my eyebrows. It was a certain shade of black that I found beautiful.

"Dude, seriously give me like five minutes with your hair so you can actually see something once in a while." I stated seriously. I had been after cutting his hair since he decided to grow it out when we were fourteen. That was three years ago, wow how time flies when you're having fun.

Sam and I hadn't actually met until two years ago, and that was only when I ran into her one day after I had just gotten coffee and of course I tripped spilled it all over her. It was fine though because she took it like a champ. She just pursed her lips let me help her clean it up.

That seemed like forever ago.

"Not a chance." Ethan muttered. "Well, I better get home before mom beats me with a shoe for being late."

"See you later." Sam and I yelled at his retreating figure.

I sighed loudly and Sam looked at me with her eyebrows raised. "What's with the deflating over there?"

"I'm bored." It was true. There was only two people in the store, one was only there for the free wifi, and the other was a little old lady who was turning over what seemed like every book in the store to read the back of it before putting it back on the shelf.

Finally the woman walked over to us with a few books in her hand. She came to my register and I winked at Sam, who groaned in disapointment.

I turned my attention back to the woman in front of me, placing a polite smile on my face. "Hi, what can I do for you?"

"I want these." She said, handing me two books, both looking like they were about some kind of old western story.

"Well these certainly look interesting." I said cheerily, even though they were nothing close to what I would read. I quickly rang them up for her. "And your total is twenty-eight dollars."

The woman gave me thirty dollars. "Keep the change dear." I smiled, and thanked the lady. She left the store and I looked back to Sam. She had a book herself and she looked like she was definitely getting into it. I chuckled to myself.
