"Ok, I'll see you later." Sam said as casually as she could.
"Yeah, I'll see you." Derek told her with a smile and a wave.
As soon as he was gone I turned to her. "Smooth." She rolled her eyes and pulled our her phone. A sad look crossed her face and I knew what was coming.
"I'm so sorry Lizzy, but I got to go. I was supposed to be home an hour ago and the twins have been blowing up my phone. Besides, I think the Summer camp excuse started to wear pretty thin a few days ago."
I nodded, looking down at the ground. I didn't stay that way for long because in a matter of seconds, Sam had launched herself at me in a bear hug. I yelped and nearly fell over. Despite my near death experience, I hugged back as hard as possible.
"I'm going to miss you." She finally said after breaking apart from me.
I laughed, tears in my eyes. "Who are we kidding, I already miss you."
She laughed slightly at my joke and shook her head. "No, but seriously. I really am."
"I know."
"Are you ready?" Michael asked, striding into the room. He rose an eyebrow at the tears in our eyes, but didn't say anything.
Sam cleared her throat and straightened her shirt. "Yep." She sent me a small smile just before her and Michael disappeared.
I sighed deeply. I really was going to miss her. I plopped back on the couch. It had been two days since James woke up and he Derek said he should be back to normal by tomorrow.
"Friends are liabilities, you know."
The sudden voice made me jump and bang my knee against the coffee table. "Ow!" I mumbled a few more choice words as I rubbed the spot on my knee that was throbbing.
"Don't do that." I reprimanded my father. He had been doing that a lot lately. Just popping out of nowhere and scaring the crap out of me.
"I can do whatever I want." the voice inside my head stated matter-of-factly.
I rolled my eyes. "Do you ever shut up?" I asked him, frustrated.
"That depends. Are you going to join the demons?"
"For like the hundredth time, no."
Thankfully, he left it at that and didn't bother with annoying me anymore.
I looked up as I heard a shuffling noise. My eyes widened as I saw James up and moving. "James." I scolded. "You should be in bed."
He rolled his eyes and walked over to the couch. He sat down slowly with a slight grimace. "I'm not some breakable doll." He said.
"Yeah, but Derek said that if you don't take it easy your stomach might take more time to heal."
He rolled his eyes again just as Michael appeared. I barely even flinched. "Hey man." Michael said to James as he sat down between James and I.
"Michael, tell him he should be in bed." I told the angel.
Michael paused and shrugged. "It's not like he's going to die if he watches The Notebook with you."
I glared at Michael who just held up his hands. James smiled triumphantly. I huffed in annoyance and stood up. "Well I'm going to take a shower."
"Have fun." James called after me.
I rolled my eyes once more. I swear one day my eyeballs are going to end up stuck in the back of my head because I rolled my eyes too hard at the two of them.
