I woke in a bed in one of the rooms I explored earlier last night. How did I get here? I threw the blankets off of my legs and yawned. My bare feet made little noises as I padded down the winding stairs. "Hey Michael did you carry me to bed last night?" I called throughout the house.

"Michael left a few hours ago." James said from the couch.

I rose my eyebrows in surprise and slid next to him on the couch. "When did you get here?"

"About the time Michael left." He answered nonchalantly. He didn't even look up from his phone.

"Don't you have super secret important angel buisness to attend to?" I asked bitterly.

He scoffed. "Yeah, I finished it."

I sighed and stood up. "I'm getting something to eat."

I ate quickly and rushed back up the stairs to my room without uttering a word to James. I took a very long shower. The scalding hot water felt good against my tense muscles. I turned the water as hot as it would go and sighed in contentment. A thousand different questions were running through my mind.

Is Alex ok? Mom and dad? Ethan and Sam? Will I ever see them again? Will I ever be safe enough to leave this house again? What am I supposed to do now that I know I'm a nephilum? Do I stay in Heaven forever? What happens if I die? Do I stay in Heaven? Go to hell? Is there a Hell? Where's God? I haven't seen him yet. Why is James such an insufferable, arrogant, egotistical jerk? Why does Sam hate him?

I was jolted from my thoughts by a loud banging on the door. It scared me so bad I dropped my conditioner bottle on my toe. I let loose a string of curses. Some at the bottle of shampoo and some at James. He just laughed.

"Hurry up, Rodger and a few other people are going to be here in an hour."

"I don't care." I called through the door. A scowl had etched its way on my face. He always manages to put me in a bad mood.

"Trust me, you will." And with that he left.

I finished quickly and left my hair to air dry. I stayed in my room until James called me down. I stayed in my room an extra few minutes just to annoy him. My hair was still half wet and a drop of water slid from a strand of my hair and to the floor as I reached the bottom stair.

James glared at me pointedly, while somehow managing to smile politely. Honestly it just made him look constipated.

I rose an eyebrow at the sight before me. Four people stood at the base of the stairs. One of them was Rodger. I smiled icily at him. He scowled. His apparent bad mood lifted my spirits slightly. I glanced at the other three.

There was one woman and two men. The woman wore a black and white pantsuit and had a somewhat kind looking face. Her black hair matched her attire. Her brown eyes seemed warmer than those of the others.

The man standing next to her was short and wore a black and whit suit. He carried a briefcase and he was stonefaced. His expression gave nothing away and his blue eyes caught my every move. I felt that if I even thought of doing something I shouldn't do, he would know. He had sandy blond hair that was closely shaved.

The last man was tall and lanky. He was younger than the others. A bored expression rested on his face. He was very handsome with his dark brown hair and brown eyes. He wore a white dress shirt and a loose tie. He looked like the most laid back out of them all.

"You must be Elizabeth." The woman said, reaching out a hand for me to shake. She offered a small smile and I returned it. "I'm Veronica MacEntire. I'm the head of the council."

I nodded politely. She seemed nice enough. Much nicer than Rodger at least.

The youngest one came foward. The bored expression never leaving his face. "I'm Devin Sales, Head of the Defence Department."

I nodded. He seemed kind of young to be handling military stuff, but I'm not one to judge. Well, until someone has gotten on my bad side. The last one walked over to me. "I'm Jakob Kane, Head of the Department of Demonic Discoveries. I'm also James' father."

My jaw dropped. I rose both my eyebrows in surprise and threw glances between James and Jakob. They looked nothing alike. The only thing they had in common was there height. They were both very tall. Jakob looked to be about a half inch taller than James though.

I shrugged. This week could not get any weirder.

"As you already know, I'm Rodger Leathermen, Head of the Department of Mission Assignments. Are you going to try to kill me again?"

I rolled my eyes. "It was one time and in my defense you were being a real jerk."

Devin looked interested for the first time since I met him and he smiled, looking at me curiously. Jakob still wore the same stoic expression. Veronica looked like she was fighting off a smile, and her eyes gleamed with amusement.

"Besides, you were the one who sent me to some desert in the middle of nowhere. By the way I had no food or water for three days and there was a demon trying to kill me." I justified.

Veronica's eyes widened. "You what?" She asked, turning to Rodger. She looked pissed, to put it simply.

"She was about to kill me." He said. His voice raised slightly.

"That does not give you the right to leave her in the middle of a desert with a demon chasing after her. You know how important she is to us. How long did you leave her there?"

"Only about eight and a half hours." His voice lowered slightly and he sent a glare in my direction. I smiled innocently at him.

"Only? She's human. She is more fragile than angels." Veronica scolded him.

"Hey!" I interjected. "I'm a lot of things, but fragile is not one of them."

James smirked and mumbled something inchoherent under his breath. I rolled my eyes at him.

"Anyway, we've come to discuss important matters. Would you like to sit in the living room? We are aware that humans get tired easily." Veronica said. I wanted to be annoyed at her for what she said, but she said it like she honestly didn't want me to get too tired.

"I'll stand, thanks."

"Alright. If you do get tired, just tell us and we can go to the living room." she said.

I nodded and forced a smile on my face. "I'm sure."

"Well, let's get down to buisness then."
