Chapter 5 ~Date

Rin's POV:

It's Saturday morning and I'm still trying to rub the sleep out of my eyes.

Ding Dong~ Ding Dong~

Huh. I wonder who's at the door at this hour?

"Rin~ honey! Someone's here for you~!" My stepmom, Lola, calls out.

Leon, my English dad, married Lola who's Japanese. Lola and me get along great. She's a lot better than my birth mom. She actually tried to get to know me while my birth mom... My birth mom was a lazy bum. My dad and real mom got into fights often. It was a huge relief when they finally got divorced.

When dad remarried, I was pretty cold towards Lola. But Lola filled that spot where my real mom should've filled. So now we're cool.

Though I wonder why a fun Japanese woman marries a stiff like my dad. Then again, this whole world is full of wonders.

"I'm coming!" I shout back. I fix my hair and wipe any drool off my face. Rub the eye crust out of my eyes and rush downstairs to see who would come at this hour for me. I wonder if it's Miku. She once came at four freaking AM in the morning.

I jump down the last two steps. Straightening myself up, I walk into the door hallway.

"Len?" I knit my eyebrows together. What is he doing here?

"Heeeeey Rin~!" He idiotically grins. "The carnival's in town and I wanted to know," He coughs. "If you wanted to go to together... You know as in a date?" He averts his eyes.

Lola "Oohs" in the background. I immediately blush. Should I accept? Should I reject? Well... I've always wanted to go to the carnival so...

"U-uh s-sure!" I then slam the door in his face. Smooth Rin. Real smooth.

"See you at noon then!" A muffled yell sounds behind the door.

"Y-yeah!" I yell back. Why am I such a loser?

"Ooh~ Rin~! Is that your B O Y F R I E N D?" Lola gushes. My blush deepens.

"No Lola." I drag out. "Just a guy... Friend... Thing."

"Isn't that the same thing?" Lola raises an eyebrow. I roll my eyes at her.

"Noooo." Sigh. Adults.

"Kids these days." Lola chuckles. I puff out my cheeks at her. Lola chuckles some more before heading off to who-knows-where.

"Oh Leon dearie~ our little Rin is finally growing up~! She has a B O Y F R I E N D~" Lola sings.

"Gee. Tell the whole world why don't you..." I grumble under my breath. I huff and blow a strand of hair out of my face. I straggle towards the kitchen, getting out cereal and milk.

"Rin..." My father's low voice travels through the kitchen. I took a bite of my, slightly soggy, cereal.

"Yes dad?" I reply with my mouth full. Mm, how attractive right?

As I watch my dad, I fight the urge to roll my eyes. Remember how I was talking about how my dad never like gave me love or anything? Well yeah.

"I heard you finally got yourself a boyfriend..." He clears his throat.

"Yeah so what?" What? I always go into 'rebellious' mode around my dad. It's not my fault he's such a stiff.

"Well... I'd like to meet him." He finishes. I start to choke on my cereal.

"E-excuse moi?" I can't help it. Even though I'm English, I can't help but admire the French language.
