Researchers in Sydney, Australia realized that the sections of the brain that recognize and remember smells may be damaged in psychopaths. They conducted a study with sticks covered in smells that should be easy for most people to identify, like "orange," "leather," and "coffee." While people with normal brains got them all correct, psychopaths could not figure out what any of the smells were. This has led some psychologists to use the smell test rather than the personality questionnaires, because it's much harder to fake the answers.
