Psychopaths tend not to understand the concept of standards when it comes to dating. Ted Bundy told his therapist that he never understood what attributes people found attractive in one another. If a woman has low self-esteem, this makes it easy for a charming serial killer to sweep her off her feet, if she isn't traditionally beautiful. This also may be why serial killers cling on to particular attributes that they decide are "attractive," like what Bundy found attractive: women with long brown hair parted down the middle.
