Determination bores both bitter and sweet fruits.🌋
From the back of the house, Maria listened for sounds of footsteps but heard nothing. She had woken up quite early to start weaving up a basket that would fetch her a good some of money, when she'd knocked at Miranda's door and got no response. She suspected she was still asleep and had left to do her business.
But two hours later, Miranda was still not out. Pushing open the room door, she was greeted by a strong stench coming from Miranda's healing supplies. Her curiosity got to her,and soon she was rummaging through her things, only to find a thin bottle oozing with strong odour. Maria had replaced her find, and had left the room quietly.
As she placed the last straw that completed the basket, she heard shuffling at the front door. She hurriedly moved to the kitchen and waited for the intruder to venture in.
Miranda was so tired, she felt faint. So she had taken a spot under an almond tree, to rest for a while.
When she was younger, she'd come here and just sit till night fall. The vies was spectacular, from here she could see their little house and all the way to their kitchen was visible. As she placed her back on the tree, movements from her house caught her attention. Startled she turned to see what it was, Mama was supposed to be at the market at this time, she thought.
She stood up from the spot and squinted her eyes to see clearly, the intruder was definitely not mama's. Before she could stop herself, she sprinted half way through the yard and then stopped abruptly.
Taking another route, she came through the back of the house. Taking the kitchen door, she quietly entered and as she closed it , a loud bang behind her, got her jumping high in the air, she turned.
"Mother!," she said in an alarmed hushed tone.
Maria moved towards her with open arms, "I've been waiting for you all morning! Where have you been? Someone's at the front door, so no talking!".
Miranda pressed on. " Who do you think it is?"
Maria looked at her. "How am I supposed to know?" She replied confused.Miranda picked a spatula from its position at the left corner of the kitchen. She whispered. "Mother, I'll go out there and find out who it is, you stay here. I'll be back".
Maria pulled her back. "What are you trying to do? You can't go out there, what if they are here to hurt us.?"
"No one will hurt me. I have my weapon " she took one appraising look at the spatula.
Maria tried to discourage her, but Miranda opened the door leading to the living room, and stepped out.
She took in the state of the room, it looked untouched. She moved stealthy towards the bedrooms. Mother's room had been untouched just like the living room, but hers was a different story. It looked like a war had taken place. Everything thing was torn apart, her room had been ransacked thoroughly, all her healing herbs, were gone, her newest discovery taken.
Miranda screamed.Thanks for reading.
