It was a couple of days after the incident with Matt and I still avoided him at all costs. Except one day, where my aunt barged into my room and told me I was going to a field party with Matt tonight. Apparently, it was to become friends and acquaintances before I actually started school.
The party wasn't until eight and my aunt had driven me into the city to find a perfect outfit for the night. If my mother knee I was planning, with my aunt, to go to a high school party? She'd absolutely flip her shit. If I was still in contact with my mother, I'd probably tell her.
But I'm not. So I can't.
We arrive shortly after to the smallest and dumpiest shopping mall I'd ever seen. Half of it was made of several different overpriced boutiques that would monogram your tooth if you really wanted them to. I could tell you right now, I wasn't going to purchase anything from a southern boutique. I'd rather get mauled by those alabam-ians.
Thankfully, once we got inside, we bypassed all of that and went straight towards the stores that I wasn't use to, but at least weren't boutiques. One of the stores being Rue 21. Cheap enough and cute enough. I was already sold. We walk inside and somehow I felt at home. Hello overalls with crop tops. Come to momma.
We spent probably an hour in that store alone. I ended up getting so much more than just one outfit. I argued when aunt Linda said she'd pay but she wouldn't give up. "Can't wear Chicago clothes to school Monday, can you?", She grinned. I reluctantly agreed and we went on.
We stopped for lunch at a pizza place in the mall and ordered a pepperoni before sitting down. "So are you excited for the party? I knows it's probably strange, ya know. Going to a place you've never been with a boy you barely know and already hate", she laughs softly.
I sigh and take a drink or the water I had ordered. I begin speaking after the cold liquid flows down my throat. "It's okay. I've really been thinking and I think you're right. This is probably a good thing. As long as there aren't any cheer leaders or annoying football players, we should be good. I have preps and jocks" I shrug. I swirl my straw around and only stop when I see the pained expression Linda is giving me. "What?"...then it hits me. "No!"
She groans softly. "Addy really. They aren't bad! When I said field party I thought you realized that it was the football team throwing it! They always do", she explains but I cover my face and groan. "Whyyyy?" I whine. She shakes her head and finally our pizza comes.
We eat silence then pack up the leftover and head out. On the way home, it hits me and I look over at her. "Matt plays football?" I ask. She glances over at me.
"He's the quarter back. The whole town knows who he is", she says.
Great. Not only is Garage Boy a total jerk. He's also the biggest jock of them all. This couldn't get any worse.
