Chapter Eight:

It had been two days since the whole Michael incident. I was working my shift at Starbucks, where I'd gotten a job about a month ago. I was in the middle of serving when a familiar band walked in.

I had just put down a cappuccino when they started walking towards the counter and three of them sat down. Luke came walking towards me and my friend Danielle, a girl I had got to know through working the same shifts and told her to go serve the band.

"Hey Ali-bear, we thought we'd stop by for something after recording." Luke smiled as I walked towards him back to their table.

"Hey Luke. Alright yeah, this is my friend Danielle." I said introducing the small brown haired girl who was standing beside me.

"Hey." The band all cooed in sync at her as she waved.

"Danielle, this is Luke, Ashton, Calum and.. Michael." I said bitterly.

Michael seemed confused at my bitterness. Turning away from him, I heard Danielle laugh at Calum.

"Well if it isn't Mr Calum Hood." She grinned.

"Hey Danielle." Calum smiled back at her, reaching over as both of them exchanged huge hugs.

"You two know each other?" Ashton asked voicing everyones thoughts.

"Yeah actually we go way back um- Calum was like my first boyfriend when we were like what? Fifteen? Sixteen haha? But we were pretty good friends before that." Danielle giggled.

Calum nodded in agreement before speaking again.

"Yeah we decided we'd be better off as friends.. But then we kind of drifted i guess.. It's good to see ya Dani." He winked.

She blushed as she walked away to get the bill for some other customers.

"My shift ends in ten minutes, Why don't you wait here and I'll come join you guys when I'm done." I said.

When my shift had ended, I walked over to where the boys were and noticed two empty seats, one beside Ashton and one beside Michael. I took the one beside Ashton, causing Michael to frown a bit. I don't know why it bothered him so much though? He said it himself he didn't like me so why would he care? Michael's frown continued to deepen as the night went on and as I ignored him.

"Hey Alison, can you pass me a napkin?" Michael asked civilly.

I ignored him even more and pretended not to hear, immersed in conversation with Luke and Ashton.

"Alison?" He asked again.

I grabbed the box of damn napkins and pushed them over to him coldly, then returned back to the conversation with Ashton.

"Alis-" he began again.

"What? I gave you your god damn bloody napkins what more do you want?" I asked again coldly.

Ashton turned to look at me a bit, but Luke, Calum and Dani were in their own little conversation to even notice.

"We need to talk." Michael stated.

"Fine." I groaned.

I got up patting down my apron and followed Michael outside of the coffee shop. It was a little chilly out causing me to hold both my arms.

"What?" I asked.

"What's your problem?.." He asked back.

"What are you talking about? I don't have a problem?" I said pretending not to know.

"Oh come on Ali.. I think you do!" He commented back.

I sighed in annoyance.

"Fine, you wanna know what my problem is? You. You are my fucking problem Michael. You acted like you liked me, telling me you cared when you didn't. You never meant any of it. You lied and pretty fucking hurt after what happened with Matt." I croaked.

"What? What makes you say I never meant any of it?" He furrowed his eyebrows, confused.

"I overheard you tell Luke that." I said.

Michael scratched the back of his head awkwardly. He cringed.

"Oh, I didn't mean any of it. I just told Luke that." He confessed.

I was now confused.

"Then why would you say it?" I demanded an answer. And so I should.

"Ahhh, Alison." He rubbed the bridge of his nose shutting his eyes. "Look, I'm not supposed to tell anyone this, especially not you but.." He said quietly. "Look you can't tell anyone, but the reason I said that was because I didn't want to hurt Luke. I didn't want to tell him there was something going on between us or that I really liked you.." He said turning his face to look down the street behind him, away from me.

"What? But why would that hurt Luke?" I asked.

I was so confused. What would it matter if Michael liked me? And how would It hurt Luke? More importantly why?

"Oh my god, Ali.." He laughed, his eyes still shut. "I can't believe I have to say this.. Are you actually blind? Luke likes you.. A lot."
