"If there are any start up questions, please consult them to me now before I start the lecture so there won't be any interruptions in the middle of my explanations." He stated gracefully, his eyes carefully watching the students in front of him as he kept his hands attached.
Nobody was speaking. Neither was I, despite feeling the need to. I was grasping the edges of my armchair. I didn't know why. Perhaps because I was caught off guard, for never in my life did I see such a young professor inside the school. Or maybe I was mistaken, maybe he was just a substitute, covering for Mrs. Heathers. But aren't substitutes supposed to look fidgety? He was in no way fidgety. He stood there firmly with this intimidating look on his face, as if taunting us to ask him questions. Even the unnecessary ones.
It was like he knew what he was doing and I was already liking the situation. He didn't look older than my cousin, and my cousin was twenty seven.
"Where is Mrs. Heathers?" One girl asked, his eyes going over to look at her.
He walks behind the desk, pulling out the chair and plopping to it. "Well, Miss--" he refrained, narrowing his eyes as he stared at her from next to me. "what's your name again?"
"Katie."
"Well, Miss Katie, you see, Mrs. Josephine Heathers is sixty seven years old. And yesterday, she had decided to officially retire from teaching, thus making me your new Biology teacher for the rest of the school year." He replies, gathering his things and neatly placing them on the corner of the table.
My mouth parted in surprise.
Just yesterday she was all bubbly about teaching cell division and now she's just gone? She didn't even say goodbye to us. I'm almost fearing that Bill will do the same thing to me after graduation. He'll just leave out of nowhere without telling me first, just like how he procrastinated on telling me that he's moving away.
"But you can't just retire from teaching." The girl says again.
"I'm afraid she's already done so." He declared casually, intertwining his hands above the surface of the desk. "Now, If there are any more questions, I would like to start the discussion now."
All the girls suddenly raised their hands except for me as if on cue, like it was something trendy that I wasn't informed about.
"Who's going to teach us now?" the guy with the glasses from the back asked.
"Me."
"But, you're young."
"That argument is invalid, I can't see your point there."
"Yeah, and the girls are already lining up to you, save some pussy for us, bro!" The guy shouted, earning laughter and yells of agreement from the rest of the students inside the room, and I sat there, left out on whatever the hell was happening.
