Enjoy!

Chapter One

"And that's how I kicked your sister's butt in basketball yesterday."

I playfully rolled my eyes as I came down the stairs. My best friend, Andrew Stone, was sitting at the kitchen table with my little brother Frankie and-once again- was stealing my food.

Andrew and I have been friends since I was four years old. He was our next door neighborhood and we always played together. Now, with a shock of brown hair and brown eyes, and an amazing muscle tone, he was the hottie of the school.

Seriously, the guy was quaterback on the football team as well as dating the head cheerleader. Sometimes, I wondered why he even bothered still hanging out with a loser like me...then he would turn into the biggest goofball and I would think to myself, "Oh, that's why."

Sure, I had a lot of friends, but I had no idea which ones were really my friends. Andrew was the only one I was always sure of. He was the only one who still hung out with me even when my brothers were dropped from Columbia Records.

I grabbed the milk carton from the fridge and poured myself a glass. "I think you skipped the part where  I beat you at the first three games we played."

"Details, details." He waved his hand in a dismissive fashion, he then smiled at me. "How are you today, Emma?"

"It depends...are we still going to school?" He nodded. "Then awful." I took a sip of my milk.

Mom then came out of the laundry room. "Hon, public speaking isn't that hard. Your brothers do it every night in front of millions..."

Yep. Here she goes again, the classic "Be More Like Your Brothers" speech. She always pulls this out when I have a big class presentation to do, much like today. I had to go in front of my French class and tell them what I wanted to do this weekend....in french.

I'm sure Andrew could see my annoyed expression since he stood up from the table and put his hands on my shoulders, leading me out of the kitchen.

"Nice pep talk Mrs. Jonas but we're going to be late!" He called as the kitchen door swung close.

I let out a frustrated scream as Andrew turned his key in the ignition. "Don't beat yourself up." He said, giving me a smile.

"She always does that. 'Oh, Emma! Just be more like your brothers! They're better than you'll ever be!' UGH!" I crossed my arms over my chest.

I'm sure if my mother knew about me defending innocent people in the city, she would be telling the boys do be more like me. Sometimes, I wish she knew about my ablities and how I use them to help others, maybe that would get her off my back. Who am I kidding? She probably won't even care. Hell, she'll send me to some containment facility or the mental ward.

Andrew parked in his same old spot as I sighed. The rides to school seemed to be getting shorter and shorter, which will never be a good thing. We both got out of the car and was soon ambushed by cheeleaders and football players.

Well, Andrew was. I just stood to the side, collecting my books. I watched as Diana Fabray, the head cheerleader and Andrew's girlfriend, give him a big kiss. Diana was the classic ditzy-blonde cheerleader. She was always nice to me, but I could tell it was an act. After I let her meet my brothers, she's been distant from me ever since.
