I was thrown into a cell with Hatter, my back hitting the ground harshly.Right as the cell door slammed shut, Hatter scrambled over to me, yanking my arm towards him.
"Fuck!" He muttered harshly, seeing how blood continued to drip from the wound. It didn't bleed as much, though it still hurt like a bitch. And my vision started to grow dark, my breathing feeling very shallow.
"Shit, Thomas- Just-" He stood up, looking around the cell. I sat up slowly, groaning. He came back to my side with a small bucket of water. It looked clean, or at least I hope it is. He took my hand again, taking off his top hat to place it on the ground.
He took out a strip of cloth from his pocket, applying pressure to the wound. I groaned, sighing.
"Talk to me," I muttered mindlessly.
"What?" Hatter asked, glancing at me with a confused stare.
His dark eyes were very... beautiful to say the least. I never noticed how soft they looked until now. They also looked very familiar. What am I talking about? Everything about him looks familiar. Everything about him is so perfect and beautiful. Wait, no, no. I shouldn't be thinking these thoughts. He's fake! He's just a figment of my imagination and I shouldn't be falling for someone who isn't real.
"I mean, I need a way to help me distract myself from the pain, right?" I chuckled, half-heartedly.
"Right," He mumbled. "So how was your day?"
"I think you'd have a thought on what it was like."
"So, great, I presume?"
I laughed, shaking my head. "Spot on."
"You said you had siblings, didn't you?" Hatter glanced up at me. "Tell me about them."
"Well, my youngest brother's name is Randolph. He has a twin sister named Anna. They're both angels but, most of the time, they play jokes on the family. Then there's Lucy- she's precious. She doesn't really talk much to anyone, and can be very shy but, other than that, she's actually very creative," I flinched as Hatter applied more pressure on my wound. "Uh, there's Martha. She's kind of the second in command around the place. Like, when I'm not around, she's usually taking over. Then there's Bet- I mean, Elizabeth- that's just my nickname for her. She's mentally challenged, sure, but I love her nonetheless. I feel the closest to her, she makes me smile on the worst days." I smiled at the thought of Bet trying to make me a mud pie to cheer me up on a rainy day. I was having a rough day, though she came in my room, her dress wet and muddy, with a slab of mud on her hands. Sure, it made a huge mess, but I appreciated her efforts.
"Mary's there, she's older than me, but she's not really of a leader. She's mostly the one who comforts people." I sighed, frowning. "Lastly, is Jane. She died recently. I should've done something but instead, I did... nothing... I just cried and cried and didn't even try to comfort my sisters."
Hatter lifted the cloth a little, examining the wound. The bleeding had stopped but the pain was still there. Hatter didn't say anything as he placed my hand into the cold water, cleaning the wound as best as he could.
He gently removed my hand from the water, drying it with the cloth before taking out a magenta cloth from his coat pocket.
"So, how did... How did Jane die?" Hatter asked carefully, tying the cloth securely around my hand.
"Car crash," I answered with a huff. Hatter finished tying the cloth, holding my hand with both his for awhile. "She- well- she went out during one of the wettest days in Virginia. Some guy crashed into her. And she just took too much pressure to her brain. They couldn't save her."
Hatter stared at me, a sympathetic look on his face.
"Are you going to say I'm sorry for your loss?" I asked with a small huff. Almost everyone who knew what had happened told me the same thing. And honestly, I'm sick of it.
What I didn't expect, however, was a warm hand on my cheek. He was about to say something, considering how he opened his mouth slightly. But stupid fucking Hamilton just had to interrupt with his loud groaning.
"Okay, who the fuck had to open their mouth and say something about the rebellion out loud?"
No one had said anything. Maybe, too afraid to confront the hot-headed rabbit about it.
Hatter removed his hand and honestly, I missed the warm feeling on my cheek.
"Jefferson!" Hamilton hissed. "Pheacker looked at you when he said it! You spoke about it out loud didn't you?!"
"Well, I-" my throat suddenly became dry. I sighed, nodding somewhat. "I told Angelica about it."
"What?!" Hamilton growled. "Why did you?! She's the King's advisor, she could've told him or Pheacker or some shit!" I heard something crash and fall. "If you didn't open your big mouth, I could have a chance of breaking my son out of this hellhole! But of course, he can't escape now, thanks to you!" Hamilton's acid-laced words soon became broken sobs. I could hear Laurens mumbling some incoherent words to him and I saw Peggy and Mariah give us sympathetic looked from the cell across from us.
I fucked up.
