The Candy Witch

The inside of Kokone's house was a lot less wonder-filled as the outside was. In fact, it was normal.

The counter space wasn't candy, the furniture wasn't candy, and the cell - which Yume and Subaru were locked up in - wasn't candy either.

"I don't want to die!" Yume cried as she cradled herself in the corner of the cell. "I want to go home!"

Subaru gnawed on the cell bars then spat out the contents of his saliva. "Nope," he said "Still not candy," Subaru looked different without his hat, he looked more serious and less silly. At the moment, Subaru's hat was on the other side of the room right next to Kokone.

"Now!" she exclaimed, turning her attention to the two of them "Which one of you is the most delicious?" Yume pointed to Subaru, Subaru raised his hand. "Perfect! I'll eat the boy and use the girl as a servant,"

"Wait I thought you were making conversation!" Subaru cried "I'm not tasty! Not at all! Just ask the white rabbit!"

"And you don't want to eat him," said Yume "Just look at him!"

"What are you playing at?" Kokone asked

"Only my job, to assistant you. You wanted a servant, didn't you?"

"Hm ... go on,"

"Well just look at him," Yume said, pointing to Subaru "He just ate two thirds of candy house. Your  candy house. You don't want to eat this chubby little boy, filled to the brim with candy. You said so yourself you don't like candy,"

"That's true," Kokone said thoughtfully as Subaru turned pail.

"What you want is a nice, skinny, healthy boy," Yume told Kokone "So what do you say, should we get this kid on a diet or what?"

"Well ... how do I make him healthier?" she asked "I've only ever given children candy," 

Yume smiled "Well I know a few healthy foods that involve a lot of vegetables, if you don't mind me using your kitchen I could make something healthy for him,"

"Perfect!" Kokone exclaimed "I'll get the vegetables from the garden. Don't go anywhere,"

Kokone left the house and Yume let out a sigh of relief. "Tell me you're stalling for time," said Subaru "Cause I'm trying to believe the best about you and that you don't want me dead,"

"Of course I don't want you to die!" said Yume, hurt that Subaru would think such a thing. "I'm stalling for time until I know how to get us out of here,"

"Well lucky for you, I know," said Subaru "The crazy lady will let you out to cook, you can get my hat and then we can escape!"

"Why do you need your hat?" Yume asked the wrong thing. Subaru grabbed her shoulders and gave her the most terrifying glare.

"I NEED my hat," he said, then let go of her.

Kokone walked back into the house with a large basket full of vegetables. She placed them onto the kitchen counter then unlocked the cell door. "Come on out, girly," Kokone ordered "Get making these foods. Now! I'm getting hungry,"

Yume was half lying when she said she knew how to make all the foods she promised. True, she did know  about these foods, her mother made them for her all the time (gross). But she did not know how to actually make the food.

When she gave the sloppy green mess to Subaru, he gave her a sad look and asked "How did you burn spinach by boiling it in water?"

"I don't know, just eat it,"

"Servant girl!" said Kokone "Get to making those smoothies you told me about, he needs to drink something with all that green,"

After failing to make a kale smoothie, Yume was forced to give it to Subaru - who threw his vegetables in a bucket.

"Now what?" Kokone asked "He doesn't look any skinnier. Why isn't it working?"

"Well, uh, he also needs to exercise," Yume explained "Eating won't take away all that fat, right?"

"I'm not fat," said Subaru

"Quite!" Kokone hissed "Here!" Kokone shot out a long line of licorice at Subaru. "You can jump rope, right?" He nodded "THEN GET STARTED! 200 of them! Go! Go!"

The rest of the day was one of the worst days in either Yume or Subaru's life. Subaru had never been so tired and hungry ever! And Kokone could always find something for Yume to do, keeping her away from the hat.

Finally, the sun had long since set and Yume was sent back to the cell. Kokone sat in her chair watching them until she fell asleep.

"Some plan of yours, Tomato," Subaru huffed "I'm starving!"

"Just eat the vegetables!" said Yume as she sat in her corner.

"But I put them in the bucket,"

"So take them out,"

"Tomato. I used the bucket,"

"Oh,"

One hour of silence later.

"Hatter, are you asleep?" Yume asked

"No," Subaru replied "Are you asleep, Tomato?"

"If I was asleep then how could I ask you if you were sleeping?"

"Oh, yeah," Subaru chuckled "I forgot,"

"Do you know how we're going to get out of here?" Yume asked

"No," Subaru took a bite out of the licorice jumping rope and gagged. "I hate licorice,"

Suddenly the front door opened. Kokone was still asleep but the door was opening and someone was coming inside.

Yume and Subaru got closer to the back wall as the shadowy figure(s) got closer and closer until finally they were right in front of the cell door.

"Hey," said one in a loud whisper.

"Hey?" said Yume and Subaru in unison

"Stay quite while we bust you out of here," In exactly 8.3 seconds, the strangers had opened the cell door and was taking Yume and Subaru out of the cake house.

"Is this your hat?" someone else asked, holding the large colorful hat in their hand.

"Yes!" Subaru cried, being shushed loudly. Subaru put his hat back on, grinning wildly. "I missed you old friend,"

"Who are you?" Yume asked, curious about their rescuers.

"Well I'm Laura Hood," said the first stranger "And these are my Merry Men, nice to meet you two,"
