~ A Modern Zelink ~
Zelda slammed the book closed and handed it back to the student across the desk from her.
"This is due back in 2 weeks. Enjoy!"
She smiled at him as he put the book in his backpack and walked away with a small wave of her hand.
Zelda was a sophmore at Hurule University. She was also one of the assistant librarians at the library on campus.
She loved it. The smell of old books, being surrounded by countless tomes and novels. She also met a lot of people. Turns out that you can tell a lot about a person by what they read.
A figure set down a pile of strange textbooks down on the table in front of her. She looked at the spines, noting that the stack included books on strange topics.
Ancient Hyrulian Runes, read one of the spines. Huh, she thought. What a strange topic. Isn't that History 420?
The boy poked his blond-haired head out from behind the monument of books.
"Hiya, Zelda!"
"Hi, Link. What's with all the strange books?" she raised her eyebrow.
"Oh, I'm in History 420 and 325 right now and we're supposed to do a research project with it. I'm just collecting the research right now."
"But how does this," she asked, eying a book on medieval combat, "help with your research?"
"Why all the questions?" he asked inquisitively. His eyebrow raised as he gave a slight smirk.
"Just curious. Is that a bad thing?" she asked teasingly.
"I guess not." His face tinged a little pink at the thought. Wait, did that mean what she thought it did? Or was she just taking the assumption way too far?
"Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude," Zelda apologized. "I was just intrigued by the old books." And your adorable face...
That thought made her eyes widen, thinking for a split second that she had actually said it out loud. Thankfully, she hadn't.
"It's okay," he said. "Are you going to check the books out to me? You've just been staring at them."
"Oh, right, sorry about that," she responded as she tried to hold back the color threatening to take over her face.
She quickly finished checking the books out to him and then bid him farewell. Why had she acted that way? She knew him from a general education class she had taken last semester, but she didn't really know him.
She tried to shove him away from her thoughts, but was unsuccessful.

Her shift was finally over, and she grabbed her bag in preparation to leave. She had special spot in the library where everyone knew she studied. She practically lived in that corner.
Upon reaching her spot on the third floor, she noticed a group of students congregating there. They had piles of textbooks and backpacks. This group was studying seriously.
She felt her face burn with anger as she approached them. She had a fantasy about kicking them out to secure her "throne," but decided against it. As she turned to walk away, she heard her name.
"Zelda! Zelda, where are you going?"
She turned to the voice and found her friend Ruto there, her bluish hair short and wavy. Her eyes looked at her with concern.
"You guys stole my spot," Zelda grumbled quietly.
"No, we didn't, we came to study with you!" she laughed. "You know we have a big test coming up for Physical Science coming up."
Relief flooded to Zelda's face. "Oh, thanks."
She let Ruto lead her back. As she looked at their faces more intently, she found many that she recognized, and some she didn't.
Her friend Nabooru had graciously given up seat for Zelda, knowing that seat was Zelda's. Her darker skin was beautiful, especially complemented with her shining red hair.
She also noticed Saria, Niko, Midna, Fi, and many more. She listed of their names as they greeted her, and then her gaze landed on a newcomer.
"Hiya Zelda!" he grinned.
"Link? I didn't know you had Physical Science this semester!"
"I almost didn't. I didn't. Think I'd need it, because, you know, I'm an Ancient History major. But, it's required for pretty much everyone, so here I am."
She almost had to physically hold her jaw closed. What luck! She mentally slapped herself. You don't really know him, and he doesn't really know you. You can't be crushing on him!
She sat down and began pulling out her notes and textbook while her brain fought with itself. She couldn't help that she was attracted to Link. Her ears burned with a little embarrassment, but she managed to smother it.
The rest of the hour was spent studying. Zelda, who understood most of it, led the session. One by one, people had to leave for various reasons. School, work, another study group. After almost everyone had left, Zelda called it quits and everyone nodded wearily. Studying has this habit of draining the life out of everyone.
As she started putting her books away, she didn't realize that Link was the only one in that small corner with her. She finished packing up and turned to leave.
This brought her face to face with him.
Her eyes widened a little in shock. Link raised an eyebrow at her.
"Zelda? Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost." She gulped audibly, trying to swallow the fear swelling her tongue up.
"Oh, I'm fine. I just, it was just a long day at work today." He nodded understandingly.
"Um, could I maybe ask for a favor?" He looked down as if he was embarrassed to say what he wanted.
"Sure. What is it?" she asked, gaining confidence.
"I, um, if you wouldn't mind, I'd like a little extra help before I take this test. Would you be willing to helo me study more?"
"Of course, Link. I'll always help out my friends." She gave him a carefree smile. His eyes lightened.
"You will? Oh, thank you Zelda! This is a dream come true!" His words caught her off guard, leaving Zelda with a questioning look on her face, which caused Link to laugh a little bit.
"You're really cute when you're confused," he said without thinking.
Once he processed the words, though, both he and Zelda were as bright as tomatoes.
"Uh, Link, I'm flattered," she began but let the words trail off.
"Um, thanks," he replied, his face still hot from the accidental confession. His face still bright red, he started laughing, and she joined in.
"Here, let's get back to studying."
