Trapped

I hung upside down, caught in a rope trap set up for an animal. I called out a few times before the blood rushing to my head made my try to start getting free.

Stupid. Why did you let yourself get caught, Link? There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I struggled against the tight rope and began swinging back and forth. I somehow made it up onto the top part of the tree. It was a very nice contrast to the pounding in my head.

I sat up slowly and let the blood drain. It brought a headache with it, but I've gotten into tougher spots than that.

After a few minutes of waiting, I slipped the knife from my belt and cut myself free. I climbed down the tree and walked back home.

Mom and dad would no doubt be watching the cuccos right now. Those things always went crazy when a storm came up. We don't really know why.

"Hello, Link!" my little sister Aryll said. "Where have you been? I've been looking for you."

"I took a walk in the forest. What do you need from me?" I asked.

"I need help hanging something up, but daddy is wrestling some cuccoos right now and can't help. Would you help me?" She batted her eyelashes at me.

"Sure," I replied. She squealed in delight and led me up to her room. I helped her tack the painting to the wall. Not super impressive, but it was still pretty.

"Oh, I almost forgot!" she said as I left the room. "Zelda came by looking for you!"

"Great, thanks Ryll!"

I had almost forgotten. I got to spend some time with Zelda today! That's why I had been in the forest; I was scouting out a place for our mini picnic.

I gathered up some food in a basket and walked down to Zelda's house. I knocked on the door and stood outaide awkwardly as I waited for her. The door opened revealing her mother.

"Hello, Link! Zelda's getting ready. She should be down in a minute. Please, come in."

"Okay, thank you."

I walked in and sat on a couch in the living room. It was really squishy and comfortable. The best kinds of couches. Zelda's family could afford more luxurious things than mine. But I was okay with that.

She walked down the stairs. "Hi, Link!"

"Hiya Zelda! Ready to get going?" She nodded. "Great! I'll make sure she's back at a decent hour."

"Have fun, dear!"

"Thanks mom. I will!" We walked out the door together.

"So, we can have lunch first or we can wait. What do you want to do?" I asked her.

"Lunch sounds great! Let's get going."

It took us about 15 minutes to get to the spot I'd picked out earlier. It had a beautiful little waterfall and stream right next to it.

Only, there were people there already. Darn. Why couldn't they come another day? I scowled a little, trying to keep Zelda from seeing it. She did.

So, we walked deeper into the forest to another spot I liked. I was glowering just a bit, letting my instincts guide me. I grumbled.

"Link? Are you alright?"

"No, the spot I wanted was taken."

"That's alright. I just wanted to spend time with you. Sure the waterfall was pretty, but it wasn't necessary to our outing today."
