A Dream

"Where am I? Is anyone there? I'm lost." I hear my voice echo in the dark hallway and fade away as if it was never there in the first place. After waiting for no response I move forward, trying to find my way out of this place. 'Why am I here?' I whisper to myself as I wander aimlessly through the almost black room. I stop and look around at my surroundings, maybe I can find I way out. As I scan the hallway, I see some barely there paint that probably made up words a long time ago. I look behind me, but its too dark to see if there was ever an entrance and when I look forward I see nothing but black. The only lights here, are scattered along the tops of the wall, but not all of them are working, and the ones that still have any power are flickering in and out of black. There's nothing in the room other than a layer of dust covering everything, and dirt on the ground, its clear that no one has been here in years, and if they have, they don't know how to use a feather duster.

I continue going in the same direction for what feels like forever, until I see a hallway on my left. Maybe this is the way out? The only problem is that this one has a significantly less amount of working lights, so it will be a lot harder to see. What if I fall over something? What if I miss the exit and get stuck down there? What if there's no way out that way and I get lost? I weigh my options and look down each hall. I've been walking for so long, what if I've been going in circles and this is the only way to finally get out? It's hard to make a decision, but that's when I hear it. At first it sounded like something falling over, but no, that was a door. I heard a door close, and the sound came from down this hall to my left. I'm thrilled at the thought of maybe finding a way out until I realize something that makes my blood chill just a little. I am not alone.

I wait about ten minutes to see if I hear anything, maybe they're gone? Maybe they got out. I muster up all of my courage, and what little energy I have left, and I start moving down the hall. The sound couldn't have been too far from me, it was too loud, I won't be walking long, right? I'm wrong, I've been walking forever and I can barely see anything. Maybe I should turn around, there's no door, I'm going crazy. That's when I see a faint yellow light, its coming from behind a door! I make my way closer and stop dead in my tracks when I hear something that makes my heart stop. Now I know I'm not alone. I hear muffled moans and cries of pain. I'm terrified to go closer, but I can't stop myself from moving forward. The screaming grows louder with every step I take, I want to stop, I want to turn around and run for my life, I want to hide from whatever it is that is causing this person to shriek in agony, but I can't. I've suddenly lost all control of my legs and I'm moving closer and closer to the danger that lies behind the doors at the end of the hall.

Now I can see what looks like hospital doors, with cracked windows and a pale yellow light coming from inside. I'm too far to see what's happening inside, but the distance between me and the door is lessening by the second. I'm scared to find out what is behind the doors, and now I'm so close that I can feel the cold air from inside the room. The temperature is dropping and I can't be more than ten feet from the doors now. The screaming stops. I freeze where I stand. I hear the voice of a man. I listen, but I can't tell what he's saying through the thick metal doors, but for some reason the sound of this voice makes my heart start pounding. My stomach drops when I can suddenly hear the voice clearly say, "I think we have a little mouse spying on us," followed by quick and heavy footsteps coming towards me. I panic and just as I see the double doors fly open, and the pale yellow light floods the dark hall, the light blinds me before my eyes can adjust. I suddenly hear the familiar voice that was screaming before as they cry out, "Run, don't let them catch you!"

That's when everything goes black.
