After the last bell, Peter and I gathered our things and met Ned outside. Ned and Peter nervously walked by Flash and his goons, but we knew they wouldn't dare come near us since I'd kicked Flash's ass before. We left campus and made our way to the train and Ned splitting off to go home while Peter and I continued on to his apartment.
"This is it; do you want help with your bag? It's a lot of stairs and the elevators always out." Peter stopped, holding his hand out for my bag. "Actually I'm good, thanks though. I'm stronger than I look," I said as I nudged his shoulder. He smirked at me and shrugged his shoulders, "Alright, let's go then." He led the way up the steps and up to his apartment. I waited for him to pull out his keys and unlock the door, we walked in and I could hear someone banging around in the kitchen. "Hey May, I'm home from school. If you need me, I'll be in my room!" Peter shouted off and led me through a hall and into his room. "here we are, you can set your things there, and I'll get my notes." Peter pointed to the small desk and chair by the wall as he walked to his bed, setting his back pack down. I looked around the small room, seeing the science posters on his walls, and plenty of old projects on the shelves. "You can sit, if you'd like- Oh!" Peter noticed the clothes on the chair by the desk, "sorry, that- that's, sorry I'll move those." Peter fumbled with his words as he rushed to move his things. "it's fine, thanks." I chucked, "Alright let's get started."
Peter and I studied for about an hour before I finally cleared the silence, "I think it's time for a break, what do you think?" Peter looked up from his work and his focus was broken by my sudden question. "Uh, yeah sure. Is there something you're confused about?" He glanced at my notes, "No, I just think its good to take a break every now and then. Maybe we can just hangout for a little bit and go back to studying." I suggested and a nervous smile crossed Peter's face. "Okay, what do you want to do? Are you hungry?" He asked me while setting his things aside and turning back to look at me. "No, but maybe we could just talk. We haven't really gotten the chance to get to know each other." Before Peter could respond, his door opened and a quirky woman with long brown hair came stumbling in, "Peter, dinner's going to be ready soon, do you want to help set the..."
she stopped when she realized that Peter wasn't alone. "Oh! Hello there," the woman waved to me as confusion flashed in her eyes. "Peter, you didn't tell me that you were having company, who's this?" She came forward and I stood to meet her, Peter quickly followed and rushed to answer her. "This is Carter, she's a friend from school." He said as I smiled at her, "Carter, this is my Aunt May," Peter gave out introductions and May gave me a sweet smile, "Why haven't I met you before? Peter never brings home girls," she starts and Peter embarrassingly cuts her off, "May!" She and I both let out a chuckle at Peter's outburst, "It's true!" She says while putting her hands on her hips, "you're very pretty by the way, how did you meet Peter? Have you been friends long?" She begins shooting questions but before I can explain, Peter beats me to it, "she's new to school and we're studying together, which would be a lot easier if we didn't have someone asking all kinds of questions!" Peter hurriedly rushes his aunt to the door, just before he closes the door May quickly tells us that I'm welcome to stay for dinner, and then she's gone. Peter gives me an embarrassed look and scratches his head, "sorry about that, she's really great but sometimes she can get a little nosey." I laugh and tell him I don't mind.
After that, Peter and I start talking and asking each other questions about each other. We talked about his parents, and I tell him about how my parents passed away when I was little. Of course I didn't give him every detail, and I had to make up a few things about myself because I couldn't exactly tell him that I was orphaned and raised in a branch of the Red Room and was rescued by Natasha. It was surprising that I didn't have to lie too much though, we talked about music and hobbies, he told me about his friendship with Ned. I told him about how I never stayed in one place for too long, but that I had travelled a lot. I told him about Europe and getting to see most of the country, and he told me about exploring New York. "I've actually found a few cool places around the city, they're quiet and I like to go there to think. Maybe I can show them to you sometime," he offered. I nodded and before we could continue, the sound of buzzing from my phone took us away from the conversation.
I looked at my screen and saw the name TONY STARK, flashing on my phone. Peter caught a glimpse at the name on my phone, "Is that.." I quickly got up before he could finish. "I have to take this, one sec." I hit answer and heard Starks voice, "Hey kiddo, how're things? How's school? Find Mr. Parker okay?" He began asking, but I thought quick. "Hey! Yeah I'm studying with my friend Peter right now. Peter Parker. He's a friend from school." I said as I looked at Peter and mouthed the word uncle, and he nodded. "What? Oh, Oh! Great work," Tony caught on, "just checking in, he's staying out of trouble right?" I looked at Peter sitting on his bed, "yeah things are going great, he's super helpful. Anyways, we're gonna get back to studying now. Is there anything else before I go?" I asked, trying to wrap up the phone call. "No no, but I should probably mention before I go that you're going to want to start a night watch. The kid has habit of sneaking out at night. Anyways, have fun. End call." I hear Tony say and then the line goes silent. 'that was weird...'
I look at Peter and he asks, "So that was your uncle? Did he need something?" I turn and start getting my things together, "Uh yeah, but it's kind of late and I've gotta get back home. It was fun hanging out, we should do it again sometime." I wave and start heading to the door. "Oh okay, do you want me to walk you?" He follows me, "No, I'm fine, thank you." We start walking to the front door together and just as it opens up we hear May from the couch. "Oh Carter sweet heart, I'm sure your parents wouldn't want you walking back so late by yourself. Let Peter walk you home." We exchange glances, knowing she won't take no for an answer. "Okay let me just get my, uh, keys." Peter darts to his room and comes back after a few minutes. "Lets go." He says as he walks with me out of the apartment.
