Natsuki took a deep breath and stared at her poem for a second. She skimmed it quickly, and then looked back up at her audience. "What, you're all... STARING at me..."
"Well, that's kinda the point... you're performing, Natsuki," Monika acknowledges.
"Okay, fine, whatever! Just shut up."
After a few seconds of silence, Natsuki started her poem, despite her bright red face.
"It's called, Because You."
Tomorrow will be brighter with me around
But when today is dim, I can only look down.
My looking is a little more forward
Because you look at me.
When I want to say something, I say it with a shout!
But my truest feelings can never come out.
My words are a little less empty
Because you listen to me.
When something is above me, I reach for the stars.
But when I feel small, I don't get very far.
My standing is a little bit taller
Because you sit with me.
I believe in myself with all of my heart.
But what do I do when it's torn all apart?
My faith is a little bit stronger
Because you trusted me.
My pen always puts my feelings to the test.
I'm not a good writer, but my best is my best.
My poems are a little bit dearer
Because you think of me.
Because you, because you, because you.
Everyone stares for a bit. "That was um, good!" Monika says, faking a smile. She obviously knew the poem was meant for you...
So did everyone else.
They all turn to you at once, like you had just committed a crime, even though you'd only just gotten a poem written for you. On instinct, you say "Wow, good job Natsuki!" awkwardly. Everyone silently goes back to whatever they were doing before you guys started to share poems, except for Sayori. She went to go talk to Monika. You pull out a piece of paper and try to think of a poem to present in front of everyone at school at the festival.
You hear a door slam shut, and look around. Did someone come in, or did they leave?
Natsuki was in the corner, hiding her face in a manga book.
Yuri was sipping her tea, about to return to some horror book she had out. It was... thick.
Monika sat at the teacher's desk, scribbling away, writing poems.
And Sayori was...
Sayori left?
You stood up and went to talk to Monika. Trying to maintain a low voice without sounding worried or suspicious, you ask her why Sayori just left. As if Monika wanted to announce it to the world, she said loudly, "Oh, Sayori? She just wasn't feeling well."
Nodding, you walk back to your desk. You returned to writing your poem, after sending Sayori a text.
"Hey, you ok?"
No response, although you didn't blame her, she was probably busy. Or sick. Or antisocial at the moment. Probably both.
