As you walked home, you decided to check in on Sayori. After all, she stayed home from school, and didn't reply to your texts... plus, she has been acting kind of strange when you did see her.

Knocking on her door, you stand there, waiting. Her mother should've answered the door, since her dad wasn't home... aaaand nobody answered.  After sending her another text informing her that you were coming in, you opened the door slowly, listening for anyone inside. Nope, nobody. There was a deadly silence, except for the cars going by outside. You inhale.

Memories from when you and Sayori were kids suddenly flood your memory, since this was the first time you've entered her house in... quite a while. Things had obviously changed over time. You walk softly, remembering exactly where her bedroom was.

You checked your phone for a possible text from Sayori, but no notifications were there. Body tense, you walk up the stairs, to find...

A long hallway. Her room was the second one to the left. Sighing, you decided it was time to stop being a wuss. You don't know why you were acting so scared. You twist the door knob.

   "Sayori?"

You see Sayori in a pair of blue shorts and a pink t-shirt. "Oh, hi Jack!"

"I was worried about you... you didn't answer my texts, you left school early... are you okay? What's going on?"

"Oh, nothing, Jack! I'm just um... how do I describe it... taking... a break from school. It can be, um, stressful, y'know?"

"Oh... kay... that explains a bit. What's so stressful, Sayori? Anything I can help with?" you ask. Her room, at a closer look, was pretty messy... since you haven't been over to clean it up recently. You recognize some of her old plushies.

"Oh, nothing, I just... don't feel like going recently. I need to catch up on sleep, and... yeah!" she said.

"Okay... well, just know that I'm here if you need anything, alright? If you need to... talk about anything. I'll listen," you say, trying your best to be comforting. "I-I know... that's what friends are for, right?" she grins awkwardly, as if she were hiding something.

"Yeah. So... I'm gonna leave you alone now... but... remember what I said. Okay?" You twist the doorknob quickly, but pause to wait for her response. "Okay... thank you, Jack. For being my friend."

   "No problem, Sayori."

Those would be the last words you'd ever say to her.
