Monsters

It wasn't supposed to be this way.
The Monsters are taking our children.
They jump in through the windows.
Dangling in the closets.
Under the bed with the knife.
In the kitchen cabinets.

The Monsters are silent.

They are invisible.

Yet we know they are there.

We know some have chains that drag you down.
Some are walking skeletons.
Some evolve into your worst fears.
Some have claws that scratch your throat.
Some have teeth that stop your lungs.
Some wear a mask.
Some just loom.
Their very presence causing nightmares.

We can't stop these monsters.

We can ignore them.

Hunt them down.

Scream at them.

They will always be there.

These monsters wander around the dark streets.
Dragging their rattling chains.
Exposing their skeleton bones.
Screaming out in pain.
Scraping their claws against the ground.
Showing their teeth.
Wearing their innocent masks.

Until they find someone to loom over.

These monsters find one person to loom over, for their entire life.

They try to kill them.
They do whatever they can.

These monsters will sometimes leave a bloody body.
Sometimes they just leave an open window and a goodbye note.

These monsters keep taking people.
They keep hiding closets.
Under the bed.
In the kitchen cabinets.

How are we suppose to stop these monsters?

Please, help me save people from the monsters.

Please, stop my monster.
