She started humming an old song she had loved for years. The music, full of feelings and memories, wrapped her in a warm blanket of nostalgia. The words played in her mind like a favorite tune, and she lost herself in the song, barely noticing what was around her. A wave of bittersweet sadness came over her. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" had been her comfort during childhood, a symbol of hope in tough times. As she sang, it felt like she could almost see the yellow brick road from the song, connecting her to her past self.

Her voice sang the lyrics with a gentle, smooth touch, carefully hitting the lower notes.

"Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high, there's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby..."

Her pitch slowly rose, adding deep emotion to her performance. As the song ended, she let her voice fade out, leaving a soft, haunting finish. Jess took a moment to enjoy the silence before opening her eyes and looking at the four people in the room.

Her heart raced, and she struggled to breathe steadily, her anticipation building. The room seemed to be holding its breath as she waited for a reaction. Finally, Sussie spoke. "Your voice is amazing," she said with admiration. "It feels like you've created a new kind of music that goes beyond words, evoking feelings and memories especially."

Jess's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, but she gave a thankful smile. She didn't fully understand what was said, but it sounded like a compliment. So, Jess nodded and expressed her gratitude.

Marlin spoke up, his voice warm and reassuring. "It's clear why Alexander saw something special in you. You're a rare talent, and we're excited to help you develop it."

Alexander, watching proudly, gave Jess a wink. His approval was clear, and his pride showed in his eyes.

Jess smiled shyly, still processing the praise. She then looked at Bennie, who had been silent. As the owner, his opinion was crucial, and the silence made her even more anxious.

Bennie looked around, taking in the compliments from Sussie and Marlin. Then he spoke, his voice filled with nostalgia. "The song you chose was both smart and touching. It reminded me of my grandmother, who used to hum those tunes. It brought back warm memories of her."

Jess felt a rush of empathy, understanding that even successful people have their weaknesses, like Bennie's memories of his grandmother.

Bennie continued, speaking with depth and thoughtfulness. "You might not realize it yet, but your voice has a special power. It tells a story and shows real emotions. If you use this talent, you could make a big impact in the industry."

He stood up and walked over to Jess with confidence. "It would be an honor to work with you, Jess Lynn. Will you accept our offer to become an exclusive artist for our record label?"

He put his hands on her shoulders, showing he meant it. Jess's throat tightened, and she had trouble speaking. The warmth of the moment and the importance of the offer made her feel dizzy. She nodded quickly. "Yes! I accept!"

She shook Bennie's hand excitedly, her joy and disbelief evident. The room erupted in laughter and congratulations, and Alexander clapped with approval. The rest of the afternoon was spent getting Jess familiar with her new role. She reviewed the contract, asked questions, and was warmly ushered by the staff. For the first time, she felt respected and valued. The thought of a new chapter excited her, and she silently thanked Shaun for pushing her to take this leap.

If not for you, I wouldn't be here, she thought to herself.

As Alexander guided her, Jess learned about his impressive background as a talent manager who had helped many artists succeed. His expertise in managing schedules and marketing was inspiring. After her orientation, Jess thanked the staff and hugged Alexander, overwhelmed by their support.

"You're welcome," Alexander said seriously. "I hope you make the most of this chance."

"I will," Jess promised with a determined smile. "I won't let you down."

When she left the studio, Jess admired the modern, beach-inspired lobby design. It created a peaceful atmosphere. She took a moment to enjoy her surroundings, feeling calm despite her excitement. When the elevator arrived, Jess stepped inside, barely containing her joy. Once alone, she twirled and danced, her happiness on full display. She laughed freely, not caring about the cameras capturing her silliness.

As the elevator doors opened on the ground floor, Jess's smile faded abruptly when she bumped into someone solid. Her heart skipped a beat as she looked up to see Rick Reed.

"I'm so sorry..." Jess stammered. Her heart raced as she met his piercing hazel eyes, she tried to read his reaction but failed miserably.

Rick's expression was unreadable, his brows furrowed in curiosity. Jess felt a jolt of nervousness, while her mind was racing. She struggled to find her words, caught off guard by the unexpected encounter.

Before she could recover, Rick Reed—the influential figure in the industry—stood before her. The weight of the moment was overwhelming, leaving Jess breathless and caught between awe and anxiety.

Why exactly? Because he was Shaun's rival in real life.
