The rest of the night was quiet. Rey fell into an almost dreamless sleep this time. Only Ben's face appeared in her dreams from time to time and then disappeared again without meaning or message. She woke up from the scattered rays of light falling on her face. The day had dawned and the sun shone through the few windows and the open cabin.
Rey was alone. Ben's place in the rocking chair by the window was empty. Soft whirring sounds from outside made her suspect that he was somewhere outside the cabin. Curious, she got up, stretched her limbs, washed her face and hands briefly and went through the door.
Ben was a few yards away on the low grassy flat plateau, which then dropped down at a steep angle. He seemed to be completing a series of exercises. Each of his lithe movements was powerful, precise, beautiful and deadly. He led himself and his lightsaber in flowing movements to a seemingly invisible melody, it seemed to Rey.
Rey had taught herself each of her fighting positions. As a child she had no teacher or mentor who could teach her anything. She had learned enough combat knowledge only through observation and practice. So she sat down cross-legged softly in the still damp, but warmed by the morning sun, grass and watched Ben. She tried to memorize each of his parades, strokes, and evasions, perhaps to take over one or the other.
He had taken off his jacket and the gun belt. The sleeves were carded up. He looked beautiful, she noted in astonishment. She frowned irritably at the thought of calling something with such raw force and subliminal aggression "beautiful", especially a man. But it was just the right word.
The Moment a shadow fell on her face Rey did realize that Ben had noticed her and stopped practicing. He was now less than a meter away from her and eyed her with a raised eyebrow.
"Is that a kind of meditation you are doing right now, or why could anyone give you a fatal shock without you noticing it?" he asked with mild irony and disapproval in his voice.
She frowned slightly annoyed: "I was just thinking for a moment, I didn't think I was in danger ..." he pointed his still-activated lightsaber at her, leaving the red, slightly sparking blade just a few inches from her neck. Rey swallowed, but ignored her anxiety and stared fixedly at him, "I'm not afraid of you, Ben Solo." She knew he was annoyed at being called by his real name, although for some reason he didn't go mad with her when she called him like that.
His eyes darkened further, were now almost black "We'll see ... Get up! We want to see how you get along with me if I'm unhurt and.." he hesitated briefly, presumably thinking of the night as his father had lost his life "... I'm more focused."
"I don't want to fight with you." Rey replied indignantly.
"But you'll have to do that, because you've had little training so far and since our lives are interwoven, it's very important to me that you survive the next time, so ... you'll fight me, now!"
She hesitated a moment, then stood up, taking her lightsaber from the belt - his grandfather's lightsaber, she thought, and got a few goose bumps - and activated it. She brought a little distance between herself and Ben. He was so tall that she could only gain an advantage through appropriate maneuverability.
He started slowly circling her. Rey could feel his dark energy streaming over her, his muscles tensing, and a fraction of a second later he attacked her with the lightsaber. He did it with full force and without holding back. Rey deflected the blow with an instinctive defense. She turned in an elegant motion around her own axis and pushed her lightsaber towards Ben's hip. He also parried the strike and the fight continued.
Minutes passed, in which only the whine of the lightsabers and the heavy breath of the two bodies could be heard. Ben used all his skills in the fight and still couldn't gain the upper hand. Too fast were Rey's nimble yet powerful movements and thrusts. Rey, in turn, had to focus all her powers and stamina to ward off Ben's hard blows.
To make matters worse, both explored with the help of the force into the other's mind and they anticipated the coming attacks. Both were sweaty after a while, but neither of them wanted to give up and end the fight.
It was like a dangerous, deadly beautiful dance in complete harmony. It occurred to Ben that he had never seen anything more desirable and beautiful than this fighting woman. As soon as he had formed the thought in his mind, Rey's eyes opened in surprise and she faltered slightly. He took the second of irritation to knock Rey's lightsaber aside and yank her off with an incredibly fast movement. Both landed on the ground.
Rey was pushed down by Ben's weight and barely managed to grab his swordhand with her free hand. Her own swordhand was already fixed by him on the ground.
So they both stared at each other for a few seconds into their eyes, breathing heavily. His muscular, hard torso covered her almost completely and both legs were entwined.
Rey looked up at Ben's dark, serious eyes, which stared at her with an almost physically intense intensity. "So, now I have you, scavenger," he whispered breathlessly.
She could only stare back, caught in this moment of absolute clarity and openness. All of her and his thoughts and feelings were both unprotected and unadorned. Fear, confusion, anger, curiosity, attraction, compassion and ... desire! This feeling was new and terrifying and ... it was present in both.
Even as both wrestled with their hands around the lightsabers, Ben instinctively lowered his head, driven by this new strong desire, and pressed his lips to Rey's soft, half-open mouth.
For a moment, time itself seemed to hold its breath, then Rey released the hand of Ben's sword arm, buried it in his hair and pulled him closer. She knew this was a capitulation, but she had the unshakable feeling that she would die sooner if she didn't give in to the urge to cling to him more firmly.
However, her fears were unfounded, as Ben used his free hand to pull her around her neck to intensify the kiss. He had never kissed a woman like this before, but his instincts forced him to open her lips with his and slide his tongue into her mouth. The sensations of her two minds at that deeper kiss made him shiver, his loins contracted painfully, and his limb hardened. He could never have imagined that something or someone would amaze him so much.
Rey let his tongue conquer her mouth, allowing him to enter it again and again, returning his hot kiss with her own assault on his lips, his tongue, his mouth. Her legs were wrapped around his hips and her arms were in his hair and on his in soft fabric wrapped back to make him feel closer to her.
She knew that kiss would only complicate everything here, that this moment, that insane moment would change everything, but she didn't want to end it, she could not break away.
The pressure of his hardened middle on her pelvis made her wet and she felt a yearning pull that she couldn't explane. The only thing she knew for certain was that this man, holding her in his arms, seemed to be the only one who could fill that felt emptiness.
She instinctively lifted her hips and he responded with a soft moan, further enhancing her kiss. One hand strokes her body to her hips and lower back to her butt to pull it even closer. She sighed softly and wrapped her legs tighter around him.
A sudden deafening thunder followed by a few flashes of lightning and rain interrupted her heartfelt kiss abruptly. Both of them started in alarm and looked around. The lightsaber lay scattered and disabled around them on the earth. The sky had darkened rapidly without their notice, and a heavy storm was about to start.
Ben rose from the floor in a smooth motion without releasing Rey, flinging her off his hips and gently setting her down on the ground. Both stood close together for a moment, looking each other in the eye as the first heavy raindrops began to soak their clothes.
"Let's go back to the cabin quickly." he said hoarsely. She just nodded, unable to say anything and stooped down to her lightsaber, Ben did the same and both ran together through the meanwhile heavy rain into the house.
