I sat at the back of his car looking at my phone contemplating to call Jenna about the situation or not. He was taking out his bags with him while I waited down at his garage so we could get on with the trip. It could take two to three days for us to reach home but I was okay with it.
After the confrontation I got into a panic attack. He massaged my back and all I could hear was him ordering me to take deep breaths. All I did was whisper to him
Why...why.....why...
"It's cause I cherish you whether you believe me or not. I can never ignore the fact that you were mine once and now that you aren't doesn't mean I don't cherish you."he said as he whispered in my ear softly, "is that sufficient answer for you?"
"Damien, I feel we are going about in a circle. It's been years and still... I..."
"I know....." He said and I looked up at him. "It's the same for me too."
"But..."
" But we can't.." he said and I nodded weakly.
Somehow it felt like... We just closed a door we never wanted to.

The door opened and he climbed in muttering about the cold and how he hated it. I was going to ask him about his favourite grey sweater he wore during the cold days back then but I kept my mouth shut.
"You okay there?" He asked looking at me through rearview mirror. I nodded looking at him. He smiled and started the engine.
And off we went.
It was about an hour or two that I collected all the couraged within me to call Jenna and explain her why the hell I wouldn't be there for the dinner.
"You....what? What?!! You... You... WHAT!!!" She scream stammered me making me cringe with fear.
"Look I had no option!!" I squealed
" I don't even know what to say to you, Ethan. You are the most stupid guy I have seen in my life. Take a boat!! Anything but that!!" She shouted at me.
"Jenna, wake up. That's the only thing available to me and I took it. I'll be there for Christmas. Tell dad..please." I said as calmly as I could be.
"For fuck sake.." she whispered, "if anything happens, you call me got it?"
"Yeah..." I said and put my phone down looking at the sceneries of white covered houses passing by.
He hadn't said anything, maybe concentrating on driving. He turned on the music and soft melody flowed in.
"So, you dating someone?" He asked suddenly making my eyes go wide.
"What." I croaked from behind.
"Are you seeing someone?" He asked without looking at me not even through the rearview mirror.
I cleared my throat.
"Yeah.."
"Is he good to you?"
"...." I stared at his back not knowing where this talk was headed to.
"Damien..wh-"
"Is he good to you?" He asked again this time his voice was loud.
I sighed looking at my fingers and opened my mouth to answer.
"Yeah..yeah he's good to me. He's really sweet and funny." I answered looking at the back of his head.
