days passed, and jimin only got progressively more and more resentful of himself over time.
he hated himself for not understanding youngjin's point of view.
he hated himself for not giving the love youngjin deserved.
he hated himself for not being there for youngjin.
and lastly, he hated himself for loving. after all, how could someone like jimin love someone like youngjin?
he wished he never said hello when they saw each other in tuition, and he wished youngjin never wasted his time and love on jimin, and he wished- he wished they had never met.
he wished they never happened.
so that the accident would never have happened.
jimin never forgave himself.
every year for three years, he stayed cooped up in his room for a week or so, not eating, hardly sleeping, and cutting himself off from everyone and everything completely.
he never forgave himself until he met jae eun. they were best friends since the start, and she was loving and kind, staying by jimin's side throughout his school years even when he had constantly ditched her for youngjin.
she didn't make him forget- nothing could or would ever make him.
but she made him forgive- forgive himself.

0158 AMjimin shoved his phone into his pocket, slamming the door shut as he took off running. without even turning back, jimin raised both his middle fingers when he heard his father reopen the front door, yelling unintelligible words that were strung together to form an even more unintelligible sentence.
jimin could have sworn he smelled his drunk father's alcohol breath from there.
"please, please, please be okay."
he begged, now breaking out into a sprint as he saw jae eun's house. at nearly 2am in the morning, only her house had its lights switched on, lighting up the street with its dingy orange tinted light.jimin barged into the house, swinging the front door open with full force only to find jae eun's father with his hand in the air, about to hit mi eun, jae eun's little sister.
her father looked at him dead in the eyes.
"and who might you be, young sir?" he snarled, his hand still raised.
he was bigger than jimin, and was definitely way stronger than him. his eyebrows were thick and arched, and his jaw was strong. he looked like a typical villain out if a pixar movie.
"fuck you." jimin growled, throwing a punch at his solar plexus, causing him to gag, clutching his abdomen and crumpling to the floor like a piece of tissue paper that had water dumped on it.
"that was for mi eun." jimin snarled, shaking his fist.
"and this-" he continued, "this is for jae eun." he shouted, kneeing her father in the face, his head in his hands.
her father fell unconscious.
"let's go." jimin said hastily, carrying mi eun and grabbing jae eun's hand.
jae eun began to cry.
as mi eun dozed off from pure exhaustion and trauma in his arms, her small head resting against his neck, he pulled jae eun closer, hugging her tightly.
"what's wrong? it's all okay now, right? its over now, we can settle this tomorrow."
she pushed herself off jimin, wiggling free from his grasp, an uncontrollable stream of tears running down her face.
"mum- my mum," she muttered, her voice trembling with fear.
"he hit her."
