He stood there. All he had to do was stand there. It was kind of instant. I knew I wanted to get to know him but how. He was with her and I was wasn't. She wasn't much though. But then again neither was I.
...
Riley. She was kind of a good friend? Maybe? She was kind of annoying. But, hey at the moment she was all I
had. Except for Aaron. He was the only reason that I was even going on this stupid trip. I wanted to spend time with him. We talk a lot? I guess you could say we have a thing. I get confused with him sometimes.
My mother and I pull into the parking lot of the school for this 6 hour trip that I would be making so I could pass sophomore year. I hop out of the car and say goodbye to my mom. I look around to find a any familiar face. I scan the crowd, which was increasingly filling with other people from my class. From across the parking lot I see Riley. I also see Aaron!! He looks so cute. I walk over with a smile forming on my face.
"Hey Nova." Riley waves, and I return with a smile.
"I was thinking you weren't going to show up" Aaron's words roll off his tongue beautifully.
"You don't get off that easily Aaron" I laughed and mentally smacked myself in the head. I'm so god damn awkward. Luckily though, I heard a small chuckle escape from his lips.
"Sit with me on the bus?"
"Of course!" How could I turn down sitting with him.
Another ten minutes passed of conversation with my friends. By then it was time to board the bus to this torturous trip. But I'm with Aaron so how bad could it be? Me and Aaron walk to the second last seat of the bus. I can hear Riley talking to a boy behind me. I look back and a see a dark haired boy with freckles of pure gold. I've never seen him before in my life. I turn back to Aaron and just admire him.
An hour passes and we finally reach to where we needed to be. Some building with a lot of statues and a glass dome. I didn't really know what we were doing or why we were here.
"Ok class listen up" a couple chaperones have gathered the group up so we can get started.
"We have split you up into groups to walk around and see some of the sites."
The lists were read and sadly I was not in a group with Aaron. Although I was in a group with Riley which I didn't mind that much.
We spent about and hour touring the grounds until it was time for a lunch break. The whole class was grouped back together and I immediately found Aaron to eat lunch with. I looked over to Riley and found her again sitting with the dark haired boy. I admit I was curious about him, but I wanted to focus on Aaron today. We sat together at lunch and talked for about an hour or so.
After we ate lunch we got back into our groups to do some more activities.
"Hey Riley"
"Yes?"
"Whose that boy that you have been with." I didn't mean to snoop but I really wanted to know for some reason.
"Which one?" Riley let out a small chuckle. She's always been known to flirt with a lot of guys.
"The pale one with the dark hair."
She smirked and looked at the ground. She raised her head and I noticed that her cheeks were slightly pink.
"That's Matt."
I could tell that she liked him.
"Aw Riley you're blushing!" I teased.
"Oh shut up no I am not!"
We laughed together and got on with this tour.
Surprisingly the four hours had passed by fairly quickly and by the time I knew it we were boarding the buses again. A took my seat in the back and waited for Aaron. I took the window seat since I made Aaron sit there on the way here. After a minute Aaron strolls onto the bus. He smiles at me and then takes his seat next to me.
"Hey did you have fun with your group?" I asked politely.
"Yes very much, and you?"
"I had a a good time, which was odd considering I thought it would be dreaded."
"Well I'm glad you had a good time, I wish we could've been in the same group though. That would've made it at least twenty times better!"
"Really?" I asked. I was a little in shock that he said that. Although it made my stomach flutter and I felt the blood rushing to my cheeks.
"Of course!" He laughs. Such a sweet and gentle laugh.
I check my phone in case I've missed anything from my parents or friends. When I look back up I see Aaron talking to one of his friends across the aisle. Not a problem I will just talk to him when he's finished.
.
About twenty minutes later I look back at Aaron who is still chatting with his friend. I sigh and lean back in my seat. I really wanted to talk to him. Just then I hear a familiar laugh from behind me. I look back to find Riley and Matt. Since Aaron was occupied I thought that maybe I would talk to them.
"Hey Riley"
"Hey Nova"
"That's a beautiful name" I heard this from a mouth I wasn't expecting. I looked over to Matt who just stared at me.
"Why thank you, and who are you?" I smiled. I knew who he was, but I wanted to hear his voice again. I was caught off guard the last time so I didn't quite hear.
"Matt." He said this almost expressionless. I looked back and he was still staring at me.
"Well Matt pleased to meet you." I tried to be as polite as possible.
He flashed a quick smile before looking at his hands. He seemed to be twiddling his thumbs. Something I found quite adorable.
What am I talking about I like Aaron.
I glanced back just to see that Aaron was still in his deep conversation. I looked back at Riley and we talked for a while with Matt as well. he seemed very friendly and fun. I could see how Riley could like him. I glanced down to see Matt's hands moving quickly over the keyboard of his phone. Thinking it would lighten the mood I suggested playing some music. That always put me in a better mood. Matt seemed very interested and turned on one of my favorite songs at the moment. Almost immediately we all started singing and laughing.
A moment of courage flashed through my eyes.
"Hey Matt can I see your phone to pick the next song."
He reluctantly handed over his phone. I scrolled through his songs, but that's not why I asked for his phone. I quickly made a new contact and put my number in. I shot myself a quick text from his phone so I could save the number and then I returned it to Matt.
Looking at my phone I had indeed received a text from a new number.
We were winding down the road back to the parking lot of the school. I was kind of glad to be back considering Aaron only acknowledged me once at the beginning of the ride back.
I walked off the bus and said goodbye to Riley giving her a quick hug and saying that I would see her on Monday. I walked slowly over to my mothers car.
We got home quickly and I'll admit that I was extremely tired. I stalked over to my bed and gently shut my eyes. I felt myself drifting into a deep sleep. I didn't fight it because that sounded pretty damn good right now.
