I do my makeup the best I can and curl my hair. My dress is a body con black lace short dress. I paired Saphire blue heels with it and match the eyeshadow with the color of my shoes. I spin around in the mirror a few times and admire my work. I take a few pictures of myself. I dance around my room and laugh. This is my first time going to a school dance. I never had an interest before as nobody has asked me before. Sophie always tried her best to get me to go but I didn't want to third wheel with whatever football player asked her that year and I certainly didn't want to see Kyle and whoever he took as his date that year.

I pull out my phone and check my text messages to Cody: Cody Winston 📷 -Yesterday 7:00 pm-
Me: Hey coming to the game?
Me: game starting😕
Me: cold shoulder much? 🧐
-TODAY-
Me: Hey maybe I'll see you tonight?
No replies. Radio silence from him. Some best friends I have. I hear the doorbell ring. I grab my heels and my black clutch purse. I run downstairs and slip on my heels. I open the door and Kyle steps in with a corsage. It's black, my favorite color and matches my dress.
"You look...God, no words." Kyle looks me up and down.
"You clean up pretty good too." I giggle and kiss him on the cheek. I grab the pin on boutonnière. I put it on him and he slips the corsage on my wrist as Dad takes pictures.
"Have fun you two!" Dad smiles.
"Bye Dad!" I wave. We head out into the night. We meet his friend group at a fancy Italian restaurant. I sit in between Kyle and Sophie but I feel lonely. Sophie is busy talking to her date, Drew Yarn, another football player, and Kyle is busy talking to the other football players. The other cheerleaders are busy gossiping. After what seems like the longest dinner ever, we go to the venue, a beautiful outdoor garden place. We start dancing. I laugh when Kyle spins me around and twirls me. During a slow dance, my eyes wander over to the photography area. I spot Cody taking pictures and adjusting the camera. After the slow dance ends I excuse myself and head over to him.
