During the week, I only saw Cody a few times. Kyle and I hung out almost every day that week. I still didn't break things off with him. Cody wasn't his normal self. He acted very differently. He seemed depressed. He wasn't snappy or rude. He was just sad. I found him at the outdoor stone table I like to sit on, after school that Friday.
"Hey," I say, sitting next to him.
"Hi." He says quietly.
"So almost four years, huh?" I ask.
"Almost...but yeah." He replies.
"I'm sorry." I purse my lips.
"I figured you'd look her up. She was the opposite of me. If Sophie wasn't such a bitch, I'd say they're the same." He scowls.
"Do you like Sophie?" I ask curiously, almost possessive of Cody, even though I don't deserve to be.
"Yeah no...not at all." He shakes his head.
"When my mom died, everyone kept telling me how to feel. I thought to myself 'what if I just don't want to feel? What if I want to be numb?'. I think I tried to tell you how to feel, too many times. I'm sorry about that." I explain as I watch cars drive by the school.
"It's alright. I just...miss her everyday." He sighs.
"Let's go somewhere. Come on, I have an idea." I tug on his sleeve. We head out to the parking lot and get in my car. "Strap in." I laugh. He smiles slightly. "There's that smile I missed so very much." I smile back.
"Don't get too cocky." He raises an eyebrow.
"Mmmm Okay Well once we get to where we're going, you'll smile even more," I say. I drive into the big city. Living on the outskirts of Seattle is nice, but I'm in love with the city. I turn around and head up North. I drive out of the city and to a seaside city, Edmonds. I park in the beach parking lot and pull out my purse. I drag Cody with me to the walk onboarding for the ferry. I buy us tickets and we get on the ferry. I take him to the upper deck where the wind thrashes my hair.
"What are we doing?" He asks over the sound of the crashing waves.
"We're going to dance." I grin. I take his hands. "Dance with me, Cody." I smile. He nods. A grin forms on his face. We start slow dancing. He begins to spin and twirl me. We laugh as we dance around.
"This is amazingly fun." He giggles.
"I'm in love with you," I say quietly.
"What'd you say?" Cody asks as the waves crashing and wind whipping seems to drown everything out.
"I said I'm in love with you," I say louder. He stops smiling.
"D-Did y-you Just..." he starts.
