It always takes place in a High School or Middle School.
Example:
I walk into the huge building in front of me.
"Watch it!" one of the seniors growls at me. So much for being popular.
Why this needs to stop/is annoying:
It's just very overused, I mean they could be at any age. But now it's mostly that age. You have Elementary school, College, University, Correspondence school, home school...and those are the ones I can name off the top of my head (Besides Middle/High School).
How to fix it:
Skip most of the school or just change their age. I mean, don't spend the entire book just obsessing over the fact that they're in that school. I mean, most of us will figure that out pretty quickly if you say your MC is 14 years old.
