*Previously:
Keith and Lance had a bonding moment and then they called one of Keith's old friends.
*Now:
Keith took a deep breath.
"Ace, it's me." He replied in a slow voice. The duo heard a gasp from the other line.
"K-Keith?! Wait, y-you're real?! Back from the d-dead?!" Ace practically yells from the other line. He sounded on the brink of tears. Keith felt a tear roll down his cheek. "Yeah. Yeah, I am." The red paladin said in a hoarse voice. "Where are you?!" Ace asked hurriedly. Keith asked Lance the address, Lance scrambling to give it to him.
The raven haired boy read the address clearly and Ace said he was coming over. Lance sat in the grass, hugging his legs, while resting his head on his knees. "Huh..." He breathed. Keith was no longer in the field and was in the house, waiting for Ace (and maybe his sister). Now it was just the blue paladin.
Lance took this time to think over what happened. Keith had blushed. He had actually blushed. Maybe... he has a crush on me? Lance thinks it over. No... No he wouldn't. He tries to tell himself that Keith would never like him. The Cuban boy tried to reassure himself. But the thought was wedged in his brain, like some old memory of his childhood.
Mom... He thought. He thought of his mom, and how much she loved her. He was glad to be back. He also thought of his brother and sisters. And his father. Well, sadly, his father was on a work trip, but he'd be back. Like always.
Lance smiled when he thought of his family. Even if they were literally right next to him, they brought a smile to his face.
And then he remembers his friends. A sick feeling starts to take place in his stomach. The blue paladin's eyes soften into a soft gaze into the night sky, as he remembers forming Voltron. Where are they? He asks himself. Of course, as he expected, he got no answer.
He misses Hunk's cooking and warm hugs. He misses Pidge's sarcastic comments and squeaky laugh. He misses Shiro's "space dadliness" and smart brain. He misses Allura's soft smile and bright personality. He misses Matt's rebellious pranks and odd behavior. He misses Coran's goofy attitude and his encouragement/support. Hell, he even misses the mice, always spilling secrets or scampering around at night, waking him up. Lance misses the team. He misses team Voltron.
Lance stood up from the ground, just as headlights came around the corner. Lance looked at his watch, seeing it was nearly 6:30. Man, we've been up for a while.
Keith runs out of the house, and nearly kills himself while doing it. He runs right into the glass door. The red paladin stood up, slightly shaken (shooketh), and peeked around the corner to make sure no one woke up. Nothing. He concluded.
*Oh my lord I switch tenses a lot, beware, sorry. Just... keep reading.*
Making haste, Ace steps out of his car, and Keith engulfs him in a hug.
Lance walks to the open door and leans on the side. As he watches Keith hug this boy, he feels something brew inside him. It makes his stomach churn, and not in a friendly way. He felt like he was going to throw up. Like he was being stabbed in the torso. It made him uncomfortable, most of all. It felt like... like... like jealousy. (yes i know what jealousy feels like)
The blue paladin struggles to keep his cool. Feeling this way sure made it harder. (xD if you know what i mean)
Lance puts on a smile as he walks toward Keith, his chest tightening. "Sup." He says awkwardly. Ace looks at him suspiciously. "Who are you?" Lance swallows hard. Luckily, Keith had a plan. "This is Lance. He's my frenimie*." The red paladin replied, his smile getting wider, if possible.
Ace knew this emotion. It was hatred. Keith had found someone to replace him already in the last 4 years. Not fair.
"So Keith," Ace began. "Let's go to our favorite spot in the city so you can catch me up. I'll also catch you up, I guess." Lance scrunched his nose. "It's too early." Ace put hands on his hips. "How so, Lance?" He asked, venom dripping from the way he said the blue paladin's name.
Keith took their fighting as a chance to take in what Ace looked like. He wore an deep orange leather jacket that had his name in black on the back. The boy also adorned some red and black Nike shoes and black skinny jeans. In all honesty, he looked pretty cute. But not a adorable as Lance. Wait-- Keith shook his head to rid the thought. But it hung in the air like a thirsty vampire, just waiting to attack him again.
His red face shone in the night. Ace's face had always naturally been red. He also had dark ginger, almost red hair. It was style downwards, all of it focused towards his head. The hair was unkempt, untamed, and not brushed.
All of a sudden, Lance started to shout. Keith broke his attention away from the hair and to the boys.
Lance was leaning over him, like a bear. Ace was leaning backwards, yet still trying to remain dominant. Lance yelled, "Stop trying to take him, dude!" Keith lost it. He marched right in between the two, but not before getting a hard hitting blow at the face by Lance. The red paladin tumbled to the ground.
"Keith!" Lance and Ace screamed out of worry. They moved him into the car, despite hating each other. Lance decided to let Ace drive, as he knew the town and could get him around faster.
However, in spite of that, Lance cradled Keith's head. It was all bloody and just a flat out mess. Lance took no disgust in swooping down to kiss the boy's head. "I'm so so so sorry Keith."
Ace seized advantage of the silence. "Why did you do it, huh? You just had to make it a fight. Everything's a fight with you! You hate him, right?! Just... why do you have to be so... ugh!" Ace finished as Lance slowly looked up with an expression on his face that would make anyone crumble into pieces. Disbelief. Keith had opened his eyes, just a little. He was not unconscious any more.
Luckily, at this time, he couldn't remember what happened. Keith looked at Lance, and then at Ace. They're taking me somewhere. He thought. The boy smiled. It wasn't long before Lance started to speak to Ace, neither of them aware that the paladin was awake.
"Listen here, Ace. I hate you just as much as the next guy. But if anything, I would never ever hate Keith Kogane. I may not act like it, but I care about his well being. He is the only thing reminding me of my other friends right now, and the only thing I care about. So you better shut up, and leave us alone." The blue paladin finished viciously.
The conversation had ended as Lance subconsciously looked around for a napkin, seeing as what he assumed was blood dripped onto his hand. Once he found one, he looked at Keith. The raven haired boy had as much of a smile as he could muster on his face. He had bloody tears running down his face. "Thanks." He whispered after Lance wiped his face.
Both boys had a sudden urge. It was almost the perfect moment to kiss each other. That was, until, Keith drifted back into unconsciousness. Lance sighed heavily.
Why is life unfair...?
