Chase awoke to the sound of his phone's alarm going off.
"Chase! Hurry up you'll be late for school."
Chase pulled his pillow over his face as he heard his grandfather from the other side of his bedroom door. Chase rolled on his side and stared at the wall for a minute before getting out of bed. He staggered over to the door and walked out of his room and towards the bathroom. He stared at his tired reflection. His stormy blue eyes trying to shield out the harsh lights, his skin looking slightly less pale than usual. He almost felt good about whatever outcomes the day had to bring.
Then he saw them. In the mirror those burning red eyes that never went away. He would've jumped back in fear, but one does get use to the sight of their other half.
*'Is that old fool really making you go to public school? Is this some kind of a joke?'* Chase picked up his tooth brush and glossed the toothpaste on it before continuing his morning routine. He stripped down and ran the shower water before stepping in under the warm water.
*'Oh, is that how this year is gonna go? Listen dumbass, it won't work forever. You're gonna snap eventually. It's how the serum works. The longer I'm caged in the worse it's gonna be for everyone else.' * Chase sighed as the water soaked through his black hair. He knew his other half was right. He turned off the water and stepped out of the shower before replying.
"It's not like I'm happy about the outcomes either. Look, can you just help me get through today? Do that and maybe, maybe I'll let you out for the weekend. Deal?" Chase walked back into his room and got ready for his first day of actual school. His grandfather, the infamous Edward Hyde had taken the boy in. After hearing of the deaths of his son Alexander Hyde and his daughter in law, Lilly Miller he couldn't just let his only living grandchild waste away on the streets.
Edward Hyde was well aware of the ordeals Chase had suffered at the Monster Labs. How they poked and prodded at him with needles. Made him endure torturous experiments. It was enough for anyone to crave for death, But, when Chase had informed his grandfather of his other half Edward knew he had to help the boy get through the situation. He home schooled him as best he could alongside his wife, Mary before she passed. Now the old man just hopes Chase can control his Hyde side long enough to make a life for himself.
Chase examined himself in the mirror before taking a deep breath and walking out of his room and down the stairs. He wandered into the dining room where his grandfather sat reading a newspaper. Chase sat down and quickly went through his breakfast before chugging the glass of juice on the table and heading over to the front door.
"Off so soon?" Chase paused as his grandfather's voice boomed through the front room. Chase made a u-turn and stood in the doorway of the dining room waiting for his grandfather to speak again. He put the paper down and stood up from his chair. He strode over to Chase and handed him his backpack. "No skipping. I know with Hyde roaming around in there it does make the notion of high school very....unpleasant, but I have no doubt that you'll excel." Chase slung the bag over his shoulder and gave a half grin at his grandfather. The elder man sighed before pulling Chase in to a hug.
"You're nothing like your father. Where Alexander was unhinged and doomed to a life of misery you have promise and hope. Be good. Come home in one piece." The man let Chase go before heading further into the house. Chase smiled a bit more before turning around and heading out the front door.
