Marshall had been pondering it for days. Should he go and thank Prince Gumball, his enemy, for such a simple thing as a small raspberry cake? Or should he continue as he was doing now, pacing up and down the length of his living room, wondering if the sent pastry had been a true act of kindness from the sweet, sweet prince.
Marshall pretended to barf slightly as he thought of Gumball as sweet. That was only ironic, of course. The prince of the Candy Kingdom was too sweet for Marshall's liking, sweet enough to make his insides churn.
The Vampire King sighed loudly, flopping down on his plush red couch, the cushions succumbing to his body weight. He pushed his dark mop of hair from his eyes before standing quickly back up, his hair quickly falling back over his eyes. Marshall sighed loudly as a result, before venturing out into the dark of the night to visit the boy he hated.
'Boy, I'm an idiot,' was his last thought before the door to his home's door slammed shut behind him.

The past few days had been even more unremarkable than usual for Prince Gumball. The normality was killing him, and the Prince felt an itch to do something unusual, explore... be wild. But alas, the prince was the prince, and such thoughts were to be expelled from his mind as soon as they crossed it.
Gumball had bent over his desk, sighing loudly in that puffy, exasperated way that princes do. He felt strange, as though someone was watching him, but he did not let that distract him from the numerous pieces of paper, the royal proclamations, strewn across his desk. Several doctrines dealing with various issues were all Gumball's responsibility, and he felt as though his candy pink head would sooner explode than solve everything that was presented to him.
His legs went out from beneath him, his body falling into the chair as the prince slouched over completely, resting his head on his desk, and mumbling incoherent things about stress, and why he had to deal with all this shit, and why someone else couldn't do it.
Gumball calmed himself a few moments before Peppermint Maid came running into the room, her eyes filled with worry as she scanned the room for the prince, quickly finding him hunched over at his desk. She rushed over to him frantically asking if he was alright, and if he needed anything.
The prince sighed inaudibly, looking up at Peppermint Maid with tired eyes. "Yes Pepps, I'm fine. Thank you. I'd rather be alone."
Peppermint Maid nodded in consent, and left the room with a sad, half frown on her candy face.
The bright pink decor of his bedroom was suddenly overwhelming the prince. He turned his head to the large floor to roof window at the opposite end of his room.
Prince Gumball stood up and slowly made his way to the window, drawing the magenta colored curtain to reveal his beautiful balcony looking out at the kingdom beyond it.
With a happy, half smile, Prince Gumball pushed open the door that had been made into the center of the window, and stepped out into the brisk night air. The night was not particularly cold, but it was enough to bring goosebumps to the prince's light pink skin.
Gumball walked to the edge, placing his elbows on the stone (well, as stone as you can get in the Candy Kingdom, that is) railing, looking out at his kingdom below. It was so lively and beautiful, even in the middle of the night. The prince could see all of his subject moving between all of the various bright colored shops below. Tree Trunks' bakery had a line going through what appeared to be half of the kingdom. He could barely spot Monochromicorn and Cake walking slowly through the kingdom's plaza, Cake leaning thoughtlessly into her man's side.
The prince sighed; he knew he'd never have a love like that, but it didn't stop him from wishing that maybe one day, he just might. The melancholy music in the back of his mind was not helping either; he really hated his imagination sometimes.
