The rest of school was pretty boring. Peter's thoughts kept wandering to what he would do with Jack after school and the party later that night. He had to admit, he was kind of looking forward to it. Ned was stoked for it, MJ was indifferent and Jack grew more and more apprehensive as the day drew on.
But the second the bell rang that signaled the end of the day, Jack's nervousness vanished. He didn't even wait for Peter as he tore down the hall and bumbled out the door. MJ watched him leave, but without much interest. But he did notice a particular glimmer of worry that crossed her gaze, but it was gone so fast Peter thought he'd imagined it.
"Wish me luck?" Peter asked as she took her book bag out of her locker.
"Why would I do that?" She countered with a smirk, "go do your job, dumbass. And keep Dumbass 2 from getting into too much trouble."
He gave her a thoughtful look, tilting his head to the side. Sometimes he did that, just looked at her and basked in the beauty of the love of his life. She noticed his stares and he saw the color rise in her cheeks.
"Do you mind?" MJ asked, looking around to see if anyone was going to see her reddened complexion. Classmates were filtering past without as much as a glance in their direction. They might as well have been alone.
"I'll see you tonight, right?" He asked her, cracking a smile. He started to back away, not entirely turning around because he didn't want to stop looking at her.
"Whether you like it or not, Webs," she answered, and he blew her a dramatic kiss. She pretended to grab it, and then threw it into her locker, slamming it shut as she stuck her tongue out at him. He held his hands over his heart dramatically, feigning swooning. He turned around with a smile and jogged out through the doors.
He took off down the school's main stairs and ran a block or two before turning into an empty alleyway. He quickly changed into his suit and activated his webshooters. He webbed his backpack in the inside of an empty trash can, a good hiding place for it as long as it wasn't garbage day. Looking up, he crawled up the side of the building, where Jack was waiting.
He was already changed and had his special pants on and everything. In his hand was a plastic bag with Peter's usual snack. He was singing a track from a movie musical he had recently gotten into, but stopped when he noticed Peter. He then sang the last note really loud as he held up the bag for him. Peter laughed and told him to shut up, asking him what he got.
"A number five with pickles, squished down real flat, just the way you like it," Jack announced, and then he reached into the bag once more, "couldn't risk not getting you these."
The werewolf then tossed him a bag of gummy worms, quipping, "Petey needs his sugar, right kid?"
Peter rolled his eyes. "Will you stop with the calling me "kid"? We're almost the same age."
"It's fun," he replied with the cheeky grin, "and it helps me to not say you're name when we're working."
Peter let it go with a laugh. He stowed his snack away in Jack's trusty backpack and they were off. Keeping in touch with their communicators, they split up for a few hours to better cover the city. Peter and Jack always had a sort of contest, about who could stop the bigger crime. Jack had won the last round by stopping an ATM robbery, and Peter was set on beating him this time. Sometimes, he was tempted to let a car thief drive away so he could get in a car chase, but he felt like that was cheating.
