Oh no.
My gasps for air are sharp and short as I recover myself from the fall against the wall. I have to get out, I have to get out, I repeat to myself in my head. What is happening?
Blood streaks across the wall like it's been flung there and there are bloody marks all over the floor, leading from the lounge room to the kitchen, and out the window. I try to gather all the groceries hastily and get out of the house, but I can't seem to gather myself and keep dropping everything, my breathing getting heavier and louder.
Something catches in the corner of my eye and I stop, frozen on the spot. A white piece of torn paper is stuck to one of the cabinets, dotted with red specks. I hesitate, but move slowly towards the note, making sure not to tread in any blood, although it's hard not to - it's everywhere.
I don't even notice my hands are trembling until I reach out my hand to grab the piece of paper, ripping it off the wall.
"Watch out, I can't be controlled," I read out loud, my hands starting to tremble even more.
"Now that I have you, there's no guarantee that you'll ever be safe," I continue, my voice breaking as my head swims with thoughts and fear. The words repeat over and over in my head and I can't get them out. I come back to my senses and drop the note, stumbling back towards the door. Who wrote that? Did they cause all of this? I gather all the supplies I bought hastily and start towards the door, but stop. My heart feels like it's thumping inside my head. Whose blood is that?
I rush towards the lounge room to find only blood still, and no body. The fresh red liquid hangs over the already stained carpet and the walls are splattered with the foul stench of it. My heart is beating frantically as I try to find the source of this mess and whoever caused it.
Everything seems out of place, and I realise that our small yet valuable television is nowhere to be seen, but the window is open. I quickly walk over to our window and find our TV sitting on the curb outside. Who..?
Someone hammers on the door loudly and doesn't stop for at least 30 seconds. I rush over but hesitate before opening - I don't want whoever it is to see this mess. The door creaks open slightly and waiting outside is a man who would be a little bit older than me, his face is plastered in fear and his eyes dart in every direction before finding mine.
"Miss, excuse me I am sorry for interrupting you and I know that I was just about to rob your house so this may sound rude but-,"
"Wait, what?" I cut him off mid sentence.
"Did you create all this mess? And you think to knock on my door after you attempt to rob my house! Who do-,""Miss please! I will put all your possessions back I just came to notify you about the blood over your walls!" He screams over the top of me. His light blue eyes have now calmed down, but his blonde tipped hair still sticks to his face in a sweaty mess.
"Do you know what happened?" I ask, my nerves showing through my voice evidently. I take a step back from the door to let him in, and he follows nervously.
"Well, me and me partner were doing the usual stealing," he offers an apologetic look and scratches the back of his head, "and we came upon your lovely apartment and decided to take the television, but something didn't seem right in the place, you know?" I nod and gesture him to continue.
"Well I was outside and me partner was inside and he said that he was getting this weird feeling that someone was watching him. Well of course we ignored it, but a few minutes later I saw this huge black shadow or something," his voice is getting higher and he moves against the back of the door uneasily. His thick Irish accent is clear in his voice.
