Chapter Fourteen

Escape was a familiar word to me now. Escape from my home, escape from Liam's home, escape from Lou's home and now escape from Ashton's. The word meant more than just running away from danger now, it meant a chance to live and to be safe again. Of course we were never actually safe living in the state of the current world, but at least we could try, escape danger until we feel we have escaped it all. 

My legs are still recovering from the fall out of the 2nd storey window on a wild escape from the monstrous demon chasing us, and I struggle to keep up with Ashton and the other girls as we flee from all thats left behind. Escape, escape, thats all I'm doing now. My body is tired from running for hours without end, but Ashton keeps pushing me, saying the further away we are the better. 

The crinkling of leaves and our heavy breathing is all that be heard in this endless bush, the hot sun licking any surface of skin it can kind, leaving us all drenched in sweat. Even if anything was to attack us, I would'nt be able to hear anything over the blood pumping through my head. This place seems as if we are running through a maze that has no way out, and no matter how many times Ashton assures us that we are going the right way, the concern in his eyes makes me fear that we are infact lost. 

"Ashton, where are we going?" I struggle to say through deep sharp breaths, hunched over with my hands on my knees. After Lou insisted to stop because she needed to rest, Ashton finally agreed, helping her to sit down at the stump of a tree while everyone caught their breath. The girls, Lux and Amber sit down next to Lou, totally worn out. I take a seat as well, waiting for Ashton to answer my question.

"Well, nowhere in particuallar at the moment," he pants, shaking his head. "I'm really just looking for a road or a trail so I can figure out where we are, and then where to go." I nod my head in understanding, running my hands up and down my aching legs and stretching them. The sun is already setting in the sky, casting red, orange and yellow through the canopy above us, making everything almost look as if it's on fire. 

It's going to be a long night.

HARRYS POV

Like a lion preying on a wild animal, I watch her. Except I don't want to hurt her. I need to get Amber, not Scarlett, but I can't help myself as I find myself being lured to the beautiful girl with the long brown hair and glowing chocolate eyes. Her features so sharp but her eyes are so soft and forgiving, like a mother. I need to stay on task, stick to the job that he's assigned me, but as I watch Scarlett's loving eyes glowing with the light of the fire, the way she laughs and smiles even though she's in pain, I adore her.

"What is taking you so long?!" Zayn screams at me, pacing around the room. I flinch back, startled by his sudden outburst, but really I should expect it by now. 

"I'm sorry sir, it's just that-"

"You've fallen in love with the older one?" He bellows. "You forget that I see all Harry, I see everything." Zayn lowers his voice, sighing deeply. He rubs his temples, his hair falling over his face. I nod in understanding, trying to keep as calm as I can around Zayn. He dismisses me with a wave of his hand and I turn to leave.

"Oh, Harry." I turn around again at Zayn's words. "If you can't do the job because of that girl, I will have to eliminate her, whether you like it or not." I swallow down his words, taking in a shaky breath before leaving the room. 

What have I gotten myself into.
