Light In The Wake

The root snaked away, revealing a crumpled body in its wake. What remained made Devin unrecognisable. It was hard to distinguish between where he started and finished. Crimson was spread messily over the ground with the accuracy of an twisted butter knife. It was the final stain that had tarnished the once joyful town.

The horrifying sight before Oleg sent his stomach in a violent churn. The acid rush travelling through his throat, burnt hotter than any spice he had tasted. He grabbed his cheeks, feeling the warmth taking over his hands. His jaw gave a slight crack with the pressure he mounted upon them. His hand gave way, allowing the liquid to spurt around his feet. The smell of his oral projectile, wrecked havoc in his nostrils, overcoming him with dizziness.

He stumbled back, barely knowing which foot travelled first. His feet were wet and covered in a sticky heat, gluing the webbing toes together. A plonk on his butt was his final movement from the scene.

"Oh Oleg, look at what you've done." Erasmus stepped towards Oleg clicking his tongue. He was barely visible in the rays of moonlight. "This could have been avoided if you did what I asked."

"Muh, Muh Monster!" The words rolled nervously from his lips. His gaze couldn't separate itself from the bloodied mess.

He had no care in the world for keeping up his appearance. His stomach turned over, projecting a acidic twinge to his lips. With his mouth wide open, it gushed out travelling close to metre. The vomit threatened to tear off the enamel from his teeth. His tastebuds are soured, coupled with throbbing and seething his throat. It was painful, though cathartic at the same time. It was an apt punishment for the crimes he had cause.

He slumped his head to his the side struggling to keep his eyes open.

Through his narrowed vision, Erasmus appeared strolling out of the shadows. He appeared rejuvenated. The brightness of his eyes lit up his face revealing a crooked grin stretching from heek to cheek was reminiscent of his presence in the cave. When he had the upper hand and knew all the answers. Oleg had lost this round. Erasmus had played on his used care for others as a fault that he had cleverly exploited.

"Oh my what a mess you are. After all we've been through it comes to this."

The sound of Erasmus caused Oleg to stretch his eyelids into their folds. His pupils dilated at the same time. His hooded silhouette lurched over him. In the moment, Oleg questioned whether it was Death himself. He huffed as he struggled to stay conscious. There was no energy rushing through him. Defiance was nil; a substance that had been stolen from him, after witnessing Devin's death.

Erasmus snatched his face. Squeezing like his cheeks like lemon that couldn't resist spilling its juice. The juice however was orange muddied saliva. It coarse smell "Well then, I guess I should put you out of your misery."

"I have no fear," he had someone managed to say through his weakening breathes. He knew he wasn't dying but if he had experienced this would surely have to be close to it.

"I am sure Devin would have said the same."

The ground below him began to rumble. The earthen monstrosity was on the move again.

Goosebumps raised over his skin. His brain jostled around inside his skull. He clenched his teeth to contain its fear, however the only outcome it gave him was teeth grinding against one another.

Oleg you are the light.

The voice belonged to Pyra. Surely an apparition, he thought.

The power of Light Oleg- use it .

The commands grew louder. He couldn't see him, though now he convinced his presence was somehow there.

Through my power let me show you.

His heart raced suddenly increased. There was surge of euphoria floating in his chest. His fingers tingled and then subsided back to its limp state.

Understand it Oleg. Reach down and learn from what I have shown.

A new found instinct emerged in Oleg. Knowledge if what to do was bestowed upon him. He had been given a chance that mere mortals would never had. Demigods were lucky to receive them. It was just up to them to use them. The return of clarity was welcomed friend; a best friend that had guided him to this point.

It had seemed Pyra had gifted more than what he had originally desired. Oleg knew exactly what he needed to do.

Fortunately for him, Erasmus was none the wiser as to what Pyra had showed him.

Hey everyone, I know this is a very short chapter but I thought it would be better way to increase the suspense. The story is nearing even closer now. Hang on for the end.

What do you think of Oleg's reaction to Devin death? What other abilities do you think Pyra has given Pyra?
