"well, sir it's quite complicated as you know, but we need somewhere safe to stay even if it's just for tonight." B takes in a sharp breath as beads of sweat start running down her face she looks into the eyes of the older man in front of her and continues.

"Let me start from the beginning. J-just our story" The older man gave his head a nod of approval and sat down in an old yard chair that was laid out in a tent .

"They hit on the first of September where we were. A wave of desperation and hopelessness submerged our town. The dead started to rise and they begin to eat the living. We were at track practice when they came. A man who died a week ago was seen crossing the field. Nobody thought it was real until he reached us. His face was dirty and his fingers were bones from where he had dug himself out of the ground. It wasn't until He grabbed a hold of one of the girls and ripped into her neck that we all realized what was happening." B stop talking for a second as she looked down thinking of the gruesome scene that replays often in her head.

"Ethan and I seemed to be the only ones to get out. The field was pretty big, so you would think that more of us would have gotten out of there, but By the time we reached the only other exit there was no longer just one dead man but a swarm of dead people covering the field. Half the team was dead and the ones who survived...well they were eventually torn apart themselves.
We both live just up the road so we decided that was the first place we would go. We sprinted up through town just to see that the track was not the first place affected. By the looks of it the school was the last place hit. I'm not sure where the first attack took place, but I knew that it spread fast." she clears her throat, trying to get the burning sensation to leave her esophagus only to be disappointed when it remained. Looking beside her at her Ethan to make sure he was okay.

"So what did you do next?" the older man asked as he sits  in front of the girl with the long black braids. His eyes flicking back and forth between her and the Fiery red-haired boy.

"Ethan and I when to my house first, but there was nobody home." she looked down a tear almost escaping her eye but she holds it together and continues her story.

"So I packed a bag with some canned food and some extra clothes. I wanted to wait to see if my family would show u, but I knew that nobody was going to come home. Then we headed to Ethan's house To see if anybody was there," she looked over to Ethan and seen a tear scroll down his freckled face. He couldn't hold it together as well as B could.

"What happen next?" the older man continued to question his dark eyes telling the story of a rough life. A life of Kill or be killed.

"B and I killed the first lame brain that day," Ethan's voice piped up from beside B, his voice has seemed to be softened by the trauma that he has so clearly been exposed to.

"Who did you kill first and how?" The old man's question stung the boy, but the older man shown no mercy for his words.

"My little sister and mom with a hammer," he looks back at B and back to his hands as they start shaking at phantom blood that ran down this fingers.

"They were weakest so the hammer did the job fast. My father held up a fight, but B stabbed him in the back of his head with a pair of scissors." His freckled cheeks began to glisten with tears as they now ran down blurring the boy's vision. These last moments with his family rang through his head. He remembered the bloody, gory details of that god awful day.

The old man got up from his chair and circled the pair. His eyes forced together by thought. The thought of whether or not to let them stay was based on if they were safe enough to bring into the house with his two sons. But how dangerous can two kids be? Two lucky kids that were able to run fast. Two lucky kids who found his gated home. He circled around them once more, this time looking down at both of their dirty faces and made the decision.
