At last, the weekend had arrived. Emma had spent the previous two days making new friends, getting to know Daniel, and explaining to her auntie where she spent Wednesday night, which her auntie was totally fine with.
Surprisingly enough, Emma had not had any run-ins with Brittney, and aside from the punch incident, she had actually had a pretty decent week. But now it was after school and Emma was about to walk home when Daniel approached her and lightly kissed her. Emma smiled and blushed.
"Hey," said Daniel with a smile.
"Hey," Emma replied, trying to keep a cool tone in her voice.
"Can I walk you home?" Daniel asked as he held out his hand.
"Why not?" Emma smiled as she slipped her hand into his.
"Did you want to do something later tonight?" asked Daniel as they started walking down the sidewalk, leaves crunching beneath their feet.
"Like what?" asked Emma.
"I can't say, it's a surprise," Daniel said.
"Are you trying to ask me out on a date, Daniel Presnell?" Emma asked as she chuckled.
"Maybe," Daniel grinned. "So will you?"
"Are you going to tell me what we're doing?"
"Nope. So I'll pick you up at 6?" Daniel asked with a mischievous grin on his face. He looked at her, his blue eyes gleaming in the bright sunlight.
"I guess so," Emma laughed. "So you're really not going to tell me what we're doing?"
Daniel pretended not to hear Emma.
"Fine then," she said with a smile. They walked up her gravel driveway and onto her porch. He hugged her so firmly but tenderly at the same time and she hugged him back, getting lost in the moment, wanting to stay there forever. The moment seemed a little too perfect like she was living a dream made just for her. But then he let her go.
"So I'll see you tonight?" asked Daniel, his hand on her hips. Emma smiled as she tucked a loose tuft of hair behind her ear.
"I guess so." She opened her door and walked inside.
"See you later," she said softly as she closed the door. As soon as she closed the door behind her, Emma slid to the floor and laid her head back. She only had two and a half hours to get ready, that wasn't enough time.
So Emma ran upstairs and started to fill up the bathtub with water and some lovely scented bath soap that had the scent of peaches and garden flowers. As soon as the tub was full she plopped a pastel pink bath bomb in and stepped in. It felt so relieving to relax after the week had finally ended. Emma let her knees stick out of her pink, sudsy bath water.
She needed to freshen up for Daniel. Freshen up for her date. Her date.
Emma could barely remember the last time she went on a date.
Emma's last relationship was a disaster, filled with a lack of communication and boredom, her boyfriend and her rarely saw each other, and her boyfriend didn't understand her.
Of course, they were both young, naive, and thought they knew everything about love, but it was still a distressingly terrible relationship. Emma's ex-boyfriend, Jack, had failed to comfort Emma in her time of need and also had cheated on Emma with three other girls.
But that was in the past and there was nothing Emma could do to change how their relationship ended.
Right now, Emma's main concern was her date with Daniel. After a relaxing, candlelit, thirty-minute bath Emma shaved her legs and started brushing her tangled mess of hair. She plugged her curling iron in and after it heated up, she proceeded to curl her brown locks. After she finished with her loosely curled hair she applied her makeup.
